I'm deciding which Tokico (HP - blue and Illumina - white) will best fit with my Protege. I'm going to change the struts for street use. I just lowered my car with H&R springs (1.25" lowered) using with stock struts.
If it's just street use, and the occasional fun on the twisties or autox, then get the HPs. The illuminas are for the hardcore autox people, and cost mucho dinero.
I have the blues and love them. Perfect combo with my prokit.
Just remember the rear adjustables (Illuminas) will require some interior dissasembly to change the settings, since Tokico blew it when they put the adjustment dealie on the top, instead of down on the strut body like the green MazdaSpeed adjustables where GOD intended them to be.
i have the luminas and for strictly street use they are overkill. i can't ride in the car with any setting over 2, it's just to stiff, for me! i hope to do some auto x next year so that's why i got them.
I have the illuminas also and love them. I have them set on three all around(used to have f:3, r:4) and like the ride quality. I say spend the extra money and get the better product. You can adjust them to how stiff you want so you can go softer than the HP's or harder. I got mine for $475 so it wasn't that much. Plus $200 for my spool springs and am about to drop$ 215 on 21.5mm AWR rear swaybar(or 19mm). So for $900, one can get a sick as suspension setup.
Ummm..... I don't live in USA..... I live in Thailand. So, I need to order from my country and need to pay for import tax for 40% That's too much for me. So, I think HPs is better.....
