Tokico Blue Spring/Strut kit

:
03 Protege 5
Hello everyone, I tried searching but could not find much information on this. While researching where to buy tokico blue shocks, I found this kit a few different places. Tokico Blue Shocks, with Tokico Springs. I know a lot of people run the blues with s techs and pro kits and love it, but wasn't sure about this kit here. The kit has the lifetime Tokico warranty, which is cool. I found reviews on some other car forums, and people really love them, but hadn't come across anyone here with em yet.

Here's a linke:

I may look into getting these and trying them out. The kit isn't that far off from the price of buying just the set of shocks as it is..

i have that kit on my sedan, and its a decent set up. springs are probably comparable to the Eibach ProKit set.

I got the Tokico HP struts on a different vehicle, but it improved feel better than new. But anything feels better than worn struts.

Edit: Just saw your sig now that i'm on a real computer.

Do you like the set up? I noticed you said decent, and not awesome. I think I'd prefer the s tech springs and blues, but the cost of blues and s techs is not that far off from just buying coil overs, unfortunately. I can't seem to find a set of blue struts for less then 500 bucks.

I ran that kit for a while got mine from protege garage gotta say it was a nice kit the pic in my sig is what they looked like on my car. I sold the springs last year and got a set of eibach sportlines but a few months ago i sold the struts and springs im going with coilovers. But for the money they are a good set i highly reccomend them and would have kept mine but for me coils is what id need. I noticed the difference immediatley once installed it was night and day, they got a nice stiff ride now depending on your tire/wheel set up will determine your ride. I ran 205/40/17 and felt every bump and crack but i loved it it had a race car feel to it. I loved mine but like i said i needed some coils for my set up

Great information! Thank!

I plan on autocrossing a bit this spring/summer, and even a track day or two if I am lucky. I want something that will hold up strong for both those things, but also be fine for daily driving. I think these will do the trick! I run 205 50 16, so I'm sure it will not be as sensitive of a ride. Also, I want something with thicker tabs for the rear sway bar...

Car looks great in the sig, btw.

Thanks its under construction at the moment if your bored progress is in my build thread but they are a great mod IMO handled great took turns great still had a little body roll but not like OEM plus i dropped alot before i installed them i never measured with a ruler or anything but i was able to get 4 of my fingers in between the fender and tire and i have good sized hands. once i installed them only 1 finger but at an angle. I should have measured to get an accurate measurment but oh well.

excellent set up for a daily driver. add an aftermarket rear sway bar, and you have a very capable protege. i have the tokico hp kit, and an MSP rear sway bar, and it handles very well. on the negative side, you do feel a lot more of the road. i think you'll enjoy the set.

Awesome! I think I will purchase these within a couple weeks here.

If you spend a little more you can get yellow speed coilovers from cr3. Then everything is new. Strut mounts should be replaced at their age anyway

Edit: I see I have to use my oem mounts and such now. Mine aren't too bad though, to be honest. They could use some new nuts, but maybe I am unaware of a downside to using the original mounts?

I looked into the yellow speed but being they are going to run me about a grand, which can get get me everything I was eventually wanting to install for a nice DD/ weekend auto cross set up...

No the Tokicos only come with the struts and springs the tophat you use your existing ones. My car is a 99 and i still had my OEM ones till about a couple months ago when i sold my tokicos i left the top hats on them since im getting coils. I priced new ones at the parts stores and they were like $40-50 each hit up Rock auto they are cheaper $$$ wise not quality. Now if you want coils yes they are more expensive i know but hit up CR3 motorsports and see what he can do for you on a set. Hes who im going with when i get the cash for mine, as well as my AEM Wideband and a few other parts. send him a PM hes a good guy hell get you taken care of.

Cool, thanks for the info. I PM'd CS3 to find out how much they would run me, then I will compare costs.

They get annoying when they're bad, they make all sorts of noises. It's just best while you have it apart to replace them. Plus if you get all new bolt you won't have to bother taking the old rusted ones off. I had to torch and beat the one off my 323 took about an hour just to get it separated from the spring

Yep, mine are pretty rusty. Worried about that. Well if I decide to go with the tokico, I'll make sure to get new mounts off rock auto or ebay. Depends how much the coilovers are, I suppose.
