If anyone wants to make one cheaply here are two options. 3" or 2.5" PVC pipe and fittings, or 2.5" or 3" PVC electrical conduit which you can custom bend with a hair dryer. Try it out, it will cost you about $15.00 and is functionally the same as any fancy intake you can buy.

If you make me one..I'll buy it from you..

I need a better intake and I can't afford the $250 Injen CAI.....

Yup, those dyno #'s seem right to me. Although I am suprised to see how much power you lost from the K&N...but when i first read it, I thought you were going with a K&N drop in filter (which you're probably better off doing).

I'm seriously considering this, but I will need a test car here in Toronto. My GF is still one the fence regarding getting a MSP, and I don't intend to get rid of my GTi. I am going to check some contacts regarding fabbing the tubes, if I can get that going I can make up a kit. It would be a CAI direct to the bumper, K&N cone filter and silicone fittings and hose clamps, and maybe a support bracket using a stock bolt location. The Injen is a huge rip-off IMHO.

Home made CAI

Back when I used to have my 93 Celica ALL-Trac, I had a friend of mine construct a home made CAI for his 92 Celica GT. He got the idea from www.henryvo.com

The CAI was made from pcp tubing form Home Depot, and all the parts and supplies only ran around $60. The funny thing was, his CAI was made better than the Iceman or Injen. And cheaper too!!

I`m currently in the process of making one myself. I`ll post pics and how to`s as soon as i`m finished.

LOL that is how i got started making intakes back in the day when i was still in school. works great though and can be routed any which way you want thru various elbows. good to hear some people are getting creative and not spending outrageous money on items that can minimally improve breathing characteristics to the vehicle. anything you can do to get some cooler ambient air in and not from the engine bay will be well worth the money and time spent on getting the project together.

Good to know I wan't the only hack out there. I had a few pieces of 4" PVC pipe then a K&N filter on my MX-6. Looked Hella stupid but sounded good

CAI

As soon as i`m done making a working CAI that`s up to the spec that I want.....I plan on taking my pcp run off, and try to find a machine shop around here that can fabricate a s.s. mandrel bent version. I`ve got a bunch of parts lying around right now, w/ my Dremil power tool. And not to mention, allot of time on my hands right now. So..... let`s see what I can produce

J C Whitney sells mandrell bent tubing in various sizes and bends. I used these to make my intake for my NEON ( guess Im gettin flamed again for that one

) It werked great.

I got a different piece Im gonna use for my Short ram. I didnt get a chance for the heat shielding/filter seperator. Im gonna see how much torque I lose with an SRI. Then add the boost controller, then the FPR. Hopefully, with the boost controller set to 9 psi, Ill gain a decent ammount of Torque down low. Then Ill put the stock box back on, and see what that is.

Sorry for the delay in getting the dyno sheets posted, Ill have them up tomorrow after work. Gotta use the work scanner.

Ohh and 1ST I was jaggin you guys with that comment.

On a different note, I still want to ditch the K&N filter that came with the BEGI kit and make a cold air box from plexiglass as I am now only a 50% hack

Well, Im gona make this box, and hopefully fiberglass it eventually. If it all wersk out, and shows decen H.P. gains on the dyno. Well, Ill have to talk to Antione about being a vendor

Wouldn't know since I have an MP3.
My guess is a turbo MP3 is a bit heaverier as it has a larger turbo

Its just a guess. although that massive MSP intercooler may put the weight back on the MSPs side

Naah, the plastic end tanks help reduce weight- the scales are tipped back to you
