To buy .. or not to buy? (spicy MSP)

01 MP3 Turbo
I know this is probably going to be the most biased info I will get on the web, but it's kinda what I wanna hear anyway. I'm curious if I should switch from the P5 to a MSP. I really want it .. bad .. but I'm so close to paying off the P5!! And I really don't want to go back to having another car payment for a couple years.

There are absolutely NO MSPs around, and one popped up at a local dealership. It's a 2003 spicy with 50200 miles. Absolutely PERFECT!! Everything is 100% stock and I think it was driven by a woman, because there is seriously not a single scratch, ding, chip, etc. anywhere on the outside, inside, underneath, or inside the engine bay. I mean this car looks like it just came out of the factory, and the spicy orange paint is uber sexy!! They're asking $12,900 (which actually isn't too bad) but I'd probably try to get them down to $12,000 if I get serious.

I'm really hooked on the fact that it's turbo more than anything, cuz I love the P5 but it's just so damn slow!!! So I need some opinions from everyone. Should I get the spicy and ditch the hatchback, or invest a couple thousand and turbo the P5?

Just break out the Visa and boost the P5. It'll save you 4plus years of another car payment............

Is your P5 an auto? You should ask mryellermp5 about it. He just made the switch a couple months ago.

I would have gotten a wagon had it come turbo. There are few advantages to getting the MSP, it's already turbo and mildly modded the last is the LSD. though it is crappy it's still an expensive part to add in to the P5.

Wow, I'm way surprised at the responses leading to going turbo on the P5. I guess it's my only option anyway, since the MSP has magically disappeared in 1 DAY!! It's sold already .. I couldn't believe it!

Anyway, I do have an automatic P5 but I don't think it should be a big issue. I don't plan on pushing much boost even if I do go turbo, and I already spoke with bumpin_p5 about his. He says there are no problem so far, so it seems like a good plan to me!! I just don't know what turbo to get .. I really wanna just do a MSP swap but it's kinda hard to find those turbos anymore. They've all been taken by other P5/MP3 owners it seems ..

The only advice I can give you is be very careful if you plan to boost your P5. If you do it... do it right and have it tuned buy a professional and have the supporting mods for it. If not, you will be joining the Zoom Zoom Boom club like so many others have...

If I were you and you are serious about a MSP... Jeff is selling his, as he posted already. He treats his car like a baby... clean. Low miles etc... hell I have helped mod half of it. No major mods.. mostly cosmetic etc...

good news
i have the following for your turbo set up:
msp manifold
msp turbo
msp s-pipe
msp j-pipe
mid pipe catless
FMIC without pipes
Injen CAI

let me know if interested

SPICY!!!! Lol im a bit biased. I would tell you to save yourself some miles and buy mine but I think im going to keep it now.

Advice well taken, I've read a lot of horror stories myself. But I think a lot of that is people getting boost hungry. I mean the MSP and the P5 have the same engine except the turbo, manifold & intake right? The internals are the same as far as I know, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Since I plan on putting the same turbo on it and keeping at stock boost levels, I don't think that should be too dangerous should it? I'll be honest when I say that I'm just looking for a little extra go so I'm not getting smoked by absolutely everything on the road (including mini-vans!!)

Yea it was definitely a sexy car, but it's sold. I stopped by the dealership and they said some girl came with her grandpa last night and bought it on the spot. I asked if she was at least hot in hopes of hooking up just based on the fact that "Hey, we have kinda the same car and they're both crazy bright!!" but I guess she wasn't all that great according to the dealer. Bummer huh .. (notcool)

lol thats great. pimpin (wiggle)

I'm the one that said "Break out the visa and boost it". After finding out that it's an automatic I have changed my mind don't boost and auto. I've had acouple of them not worth it........ Sell the P5 and but money down on any MSP................

I myself did an msp swap to an automatic p5. Just because its not much boost doesnt mean it won't hurt the tranny. I drove my for a little over a year before the tranny started slipping and that was at stock boost.

I am now driving a msp and prefer it to the p5. Just my 2 cents.

There are many more changes to the MSP that just "a slap-on" turbo... I think it's like 1000 different part than the regular Proteg (that includes also cosmetic stuff though)

Man, I'm experiencing some crazy overload here guys!! Within 24 hours I've gone from thinking about a MSP, to wanting to turbo my P5, now to wanting to just leave it at what I've got so far. So, I have some questions I would like to hopefully get answered.

1. MSP vs. P5 .. what exactly is different? Turbo, manifold, intake, exhaust, ECU, etc. anything but the obvious cosmetic & transmission differences.

2. Would upgrading to Lantech valve bodies on the tranny make it safe to run at 5-7 psi?

3. Just how fast is a stock MSP? I mean 1/4 mile wise if anyone can give me a rough guess it would kinda help me decide whether this whole thing is really worth the hassle/risk or not.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm on the border of going either way, but I'm by no means in a hurry. I'll spend a year on here if I have to gathering all the info I need to make sure I don't make my car go kaboom, so any input whether for or against the turbo is much appreciated. Thanks everyone (2thumbs)
