I HAVE JUST HAD NEW RIMS AND TIRES PUT ON MY MP5 AND AT 70MPH THE STEERINGWHEEL SHAKES. SO I HAD THEM REBLANCE THE TIRES AND IT STILL DOES IT. DO I NEED THE ALINGMENT ADJUSTED OR SOMETHING. PLEASE GIVE ADVICE.

hey dude i got the same problem when i am on the highway. I think when you get a lower profile tire and if you car is lowered it will shake.

Ok this might help a little. look at the wheels and see which one has the most weight on it. Put that one on the right rear. Put the next highest one on the left rear and the next one on the right front and the one with the least weight on the left front. I've learned by doing this you loose some of the vibration throught the chassis before it gets to the steering wheel.

something just isn't right here....no matter what wheels/tires you just got put on....IF your car didn't shake BEFORE you had your new rims/tires put on...then something is wrong with the new rims/tires....

maybe you didn't get the centering rings for the new rims? and they aren't perfectly centered on the hubs....

maybe the tire shop you used doesn't know their butts from holes in the ground and just did crappy work balancing your tires....

but no matter...if your ride didn't do that before....it shouldn't do that now.

Sir Nuke is right. I work at a tire center and it totaly sounds like a balance problem. There are many ways to balance a tire, maybe they need to try something else. Have them match-mount the tire and wheel, it takes some time but is well worth it. Where did you get the wheels balanced at? I don't know where you live, but if there is a Costco nearby they can do it for $4 a tire. I'm sure there is nothing wrong with your wheels or tires because it starts at 70. If it was a problem with with your wheel/tires it would probably be there all the time.

I dont think that it is so much a problem with your wheels and tires, it could be but all low profile tires are going to have a small amount of "shaking" in them. Here is why, I am guessing that the new wheels have a slightly larger offset than your stock wheels therefore your tires might be wider as are my proxes t1's. Is your car lowered? If it is that will have an effect also. I have been riding in cars with low profile tires for six years all of them have had a slight shake to them especially in higher speeds. The wider tire has a larger coefficient of friction with the road this is why your car sticks to the road better, but the larger coefficient of friction simply means you are feeling mor of the road than before i.e. your tires grap the road this is why you may feel it pull on the highway when you hit a rig rut from heavy traffic. Its all in the math. But if your steering wheel shakes violently you shoud have it checked out. Try a softer tire and maybe try going from a 205 40 to a 45.

just since WHEN do high performance tires make your car SHAKE?....IF a car is lowered ? not if done properly...it will make NO difference....


our cars come with PERFORMANCE tires on them from the factory...although they are only 195....and the WIDEST you will get to run with out problems are 215's....making the tire 20 mm wider is not going to make it shake.

sorry...I just do NOT buy that one.

alright well sir nuke you could be right but throw an eibach kit and some 205 40 17's on your car, or have it done proffesionally then tell me if it shakes. ANY time you alter you car in handling or in performance it has certain effects one of them is shaking our project P5 does it so do our acuras and hondas it is not enough for concern like I stated before if it is then have it checked out but usually it is minimal. Lowering a car and putting low profile tires stiffens the ride you will feel more of the vibrations from the road.

I've owned quite a few different cars, all which I had upgraded the rim/tire sizes and all of which I had lowered. Never did I encounter any shaking or vibrating problem that you guys are speaking of. I think your these cases of shaking are isolated cases at best and are few and far between. Is the shaking that you're talking about a rumbling type of shake or does the steering wheel jurk in different directions when you drive over uneven pavement? The jurking in different directions in normal since you're increasing the contact patch, but shaking and rumbling isn't.

feeling the road is one thing...having the steering wheel SHAKE is something all together different.

I have ALWAYS owned a car aimed at performance....have always had performance tires and enhanced suspensions for handling...and NEVER had the steering wheel start shaking at highway speeds...that is just WRONG....YES I have always been able to feel the road.....even though my BUTT....but it was road vibration from a rough road....NOT the steering wheel shaking.

i got 18 inch konigs with 215/35/18 and i got my p5 lowered and i feel no vibration, no shake, no rattle, and no roll, lol i might feel the road a little more but thats it so maybe that will answer your question.

centering rings

All i can say is make sure you have centering rings. I know so many people who have bought rims and they never put them on, they when you go back they put them on and rebalance the tires and you should be fine.

I would also make sure one of your wheels isnt bent, sometimes those tire shops try to unload those wheels on the next unsuspecting customer. Btw im lowered with 18's no shaking whatsoever. ..
