Tires

I JUST HAD NEW RIMS AND TIRES PUT ON MY MP5. WHEN I REACH 70MPH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES. I TOOK IT BACK AND HAD THEM REBALANCE THE WHEELS. STILL DOES IT. SO DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE ALINGMENT ADJUSTED OR SOMETHING OR WHAT? PLEASE GIVE ADVICE.

Did you check the tires if they are rubbing? I wider tires on a 16" wheels and I never had that problem? What size are your new wheels or tires?

Have them make sure that the wheels are centered on your hubs. Also you might get them to check runout of the wheel and tire.

I agree. it sounds like the wheels are not on properly. Pull them off...put them back on.

ELOC1TROUT, okay...your new...and probably don't know....cause you certainly didnt' read the rules....

BUT....you are not supposed to post the SAME thread in diffrent forums....

ok eloc . .. i work at discount tire... did you get your tires and wheels at discount... if so then go back and tell them to test the "road force variation" and tell them if it is over 18 lbs to 180 your tires... and have them check the balance again.... what discount tire did you go to?
if you want me to go more in depth of what you want to know or how to tell them exactly what to do then just ask... i am more than willing to help you out.... there are some good discount tires and there are bad ones... some of the guys they hire are very incompetent.. if you dont fully trust one of the techs then jsut kindly ask before they take your car in that you want one of the back room managers to work on it...

TIRES

I GOT MY TIRES AT TIRES-PLUS. SINCE MY LAST POST THE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED FROM FRONT TO BACK. AND STIIL HAVE THE PROBLEM. ITS NOT LIKE THE CAR SHAKES OUT OF CONTROL , BUT YOU CAN SEE THE STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY. FUNNY THING IS IT SOMETIMES DOESNT DO IT ON SMOOTH PAVEMENT BUT ON PAVEMENT WITH A FEW MORE BUMPS IT DOES. ANY HELP ON WHAT ELSE TO DO OR CHECK.

could it possibly be that you're not used to your new tire setup?

after getting my eibach springs, the entire handling setup of my car changed and i had to get used to it. so maybe it's normal and you'll get used to your new setup. of course, only you know how much steering wheel vibration there is ... so i guess you better take it to a different shop to see what they say about it.

i would reccomend taking it to the closest discount tire near you and telling them your situation and say that Tires- Plus did a crappy job and your very upset and tell them you would like them to fix the problem... they will jump on it in a second b.c they want your loyal business... discount tire is becoming more and more known for its determination to keep business with them...

tires

could it possibly be that the type of tire i have is bad for my car(kumho 712) or is it that the tires are now bigger and i need to upgrade my springs to accomidate for them, or last is it that the tires are only static balanced and not match balanced (rims and tires to sensative) but i really need to get this fixed. thanks for all the post and ideas i appreciate it.

hey dude i have a 17/7 wheel and the tire size 205/17/40 my car is lowered with h&r springs and like you said close to 70 miles my stering wheel vibrates a litlle but it does't shake. So man don't worry about it i have benn driving like the for 3 month now and everything is ok:D

hay superdude did you have the tires put on first and if you did did you notice that the steering wheel shaked a little less or more since you put on the stiffer springs?

OMG THEY STATIC BALANCED 17'S!!!!!!!!! Take them in and tell them to dynamic tape weight them... that is why they vibrate so much... b/c static dosent do a very good job... take them to discount im telling you ... they will more than likely do a good job...

I AM NOT MUCH OF A TIRE GUY, WHY TAPE WEIGHT AND NOT MACTH BALANCE? AND I LIVE IN OMAHA NE. SO I DONT KNOW IF THE DICOUNT TIRE STORES ARE IN MY TOWN AND IF SO IF ANY GOOD.

well you dont get a good balance on 17's or larger with just static balancing.... we always do tape weights on 17's or larger wheels and dynamic balance them.... also tell them if the road force variation is around the 20 lb range tell them to 180 the tire... that will more than likely help a lot...

ELOC1TROUT man listen i had spings done first the ride got a lot harder on a bumpy road, but then I got my wheels and new tires and it started to vibrate but only on the high way i drive at 40 mph in the city and no problem.

And dude don't worry so much everything is ok with your car so it shakes a bit si what :D
