Hey Matthew,

I'm also in the market for a new set of tires for the wife's '00 4Runner, but our OEM tire size is 265/70-16. Tirerack.com shows 3 other options, 275/60-17 or 285/55-18 or 265/50-20. I have seen a 4Runner with the 20" rims and I thought it looked sweet, but the wife didn't. Her car so she gets to choose. Are you looking into All-Season tires or Winter tires? If winter tires, I would stay with the OEM size. Just my 2 cents! Anyway, try tirerack.com it should give you all your options.

Just checked on Tirerack.com and found a '99 2WD 4Runner, OEM tires were 225/75-15. And it listed these as other options:
235/70-16
255/55-17
255/55-18
275/45-20

Matthew - those are imperial units. 31" x 10.5" x 15" that's a standard off-road tire size. It was the optional "oversize" tire on the 4Runners.

Matthew - no that's the actual size. Call up tire rack, tell them you want the optional oversize tire for the 4Runner, that's the size they'll give you.

What kind of look are you going for? Do you want to fill out the wheelwells or what? If you want an agressive look, go with BF Goodrich All Terrains or the Mud Terrains. If you want an all around good tire, go with the Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO. Make sure it is the REVO. Normally I hate Bridgestone tires, but this is an excellent rated tire.

Personally on my truck, i've got BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires. Mickey Thompson and Interco (Super Swamper) make some really cool agressive tires too. 31x10.5x15" should fit your wife's rig just fine. Check out these tires....I'm actually thinking about getting them for my truck.

what is that in american sizes?

A lot of Offroad truck tires are measured in inches instead of metric units, so they are american sizes. Anyhow, a 31x10.5x15" tire is the equivalent to a 255/75/15. This is the largest tire a 4Runner will accept without a lift kit and fender liner trimming. This is assuming you have a late 90's model.

A 31x10.5x15 tire is 31" overall diameter, has a 10.5" width, and mounts on a 15" rim. It may seem obvious, but I just wanted to explain further in case others were interested.

no its a 2000. thanks everyone for the help. how well do these tires wear? and how much are they?

matthew, pm me if you want and i can give you my work number and one of my wheel guys can get you the size you want and we can probably get you a pretty good deal on them as well.
for what youve done fighting for our country, the least i can do is try to give you a good deal on tires.

i might just do that. as much as id like to have some bad ass off roader, its my wifes truck lol...so in her case, least expensive tires would prolly work. ill drop you a pm kymp5 and try to call you sometime during the day after i discuss with my wife how much she wants to spend.
