Tires for 195/50R16 - Kumho SPT or Dunlop 901?

Hey guys!

I've been doing quite a bit of research and here is my dilemma:
Kumho ECSTA SPT or Dunlop FM901?

I've read reviews about them and I'd like to know if the SPT don't
corner well enough that I'll be dissapointed and if the 901 would
be too noisy... I want to stick with 195/50R16 and under $90 per tire.

Any advice would be greatly read...

I have the FM 901's and I couldn't be more pleased, an as far as the noise factor, I would give it a 7.5/10....1 being the loudest.

I recently got a set of SPTs (205/40/R17). They are an improvement in road noise from the Kumho 712. The sidewall is slightly softer than the 712 to account for the less road noise. Despite the softer sidewall, the cornering feels the same. In the rain, the SPTs are much better. i would take the SPTs over the 712s, but cannot comment on the Dunlops.

Just my $.02...

I got the Kumho Ecsta AST in 205/50-16. They really have impressed me. Good grip and a MUCH improved ride. Harshness is much less noticeable. I know that the SPT is going to have much more bite, but for me, the AST was all I need. Only $56 each too!

Used the 901's for street and 2 years of track days. Love them.
Really loud road noise, but a nice predictable (on the track) tire with great hydroplaning resistance.

They are more comfortable to ride on than the stock tires and may seem less responsive, but you'll get used to them.

^^^ I sure like mine ^^^

But they aren't a dedicated summer tire, and I think they're more expensive than the SPT's.

mine are doing great during this summer, no problems and they really hug the road, a little pricey but well worth it.

I'll echo AlaskaP5, I had the 712's and now have the SPT's in 205/50-16 and like them much better. Handling is the same but the ride is much better, quieter tire as well.

I'm going with Toyo T1-R's, stock 195/50-16 for $119 each (mounted & balanced) I was looking at the Michelin Exalto PE2 but >$$...I need a Summer performance tire with good wet wx. traction.

This is a little off but has anyone ever used Pirellis on this car?
I am also looking into buying some new rubber and i was looking at the Kumho's but i was also wondering about Pirellis's

Canadian Pricing

For those Canadians interested in pricing for these tires, I just called around looking for my car.

Dunlop FM901
195/50/16 - $187 installed/tire
205/50/16 - $169 installed/tire

Kumho ECSTA SPT
195/50/16 - $138.80 installed & balanced/tire
205/50/16 - $162.95 installed & balanced/tire

These are the prices I found in Ottawa. I only found one dealer in the city for each of these. Please PM me if you know of better pricing or other dealers in the Ottawa area.

Given the 205/50/16 prices, would you gusy get the Dunlop's or the Kumho's?

Per tire????

I just found out that the FM901s are atleast 4 weeks for delivery from Dunlop USA and the new Derezza DZ101 is on back-order.

(pissed)

Damn...180 per tire, i paid $169 for two 195/50/16 FM901's mounted an balanced.

Try Discount tire, if there's one near you....took 3 days for them to get my 195/50/16's in. They had the optional sizing 205's in stock.
