My 2009 MS3 smokes intermittently at idle. It has been doing it for about a year now. I have tried just about every fix (thicker oil, banjo bolt, pill) and none of it makes a difference. My mods are..
Injen Intake
CPE Rear Motor Mount
Hypertech Tune
MBC set to 16 psi (Hypertech tune only runs at 12-13 at my altitude because of the ECU not adjusting for pressure drop. Stock it was running 12.5 PSI at 6000ft elevation.Yea..)
Exhaust shop test pipe
No resonators
Meth Injection
DIY Intercooler Sprayer
FMIC core awaiting delivery of piping kit
I really am just tired of having to modulate the throttle at idle to keep it from smoking. If I hold it at around 1k idle no smoke. I know the AP can change this, but that would require dropping more money and selling my Hypertech. I also wouldn't look forward to learning how to tune, or paying even more money for a pro tune. OTS maps are not something I want to risk because of how different this car runs at high altitudes. In the next year I will go with a stage 2 BNR and be done with the smoking but until then I would like a temporary fix. It blows that hypertech will not put in a simple option for a 900 or 950 rpm idle.
Should I just sell the Hypertech and use that money to partial fund a used AP and only use it to control boost and idle until I can afford a pro tune or is there anyway to "trick" the ecu into raising the idle similar to a map clamp? Thanks.
