tired of CEL

my msp is bone stock, has 64,000 miles and runs great.
my problem is the CEL
this light comes on about once a week, and drives me crazy.
except for the miles, the car is pristine.

anyone know why the light comes on so much??

Autozone can tell you for free. Or usually any auto parts store...pepboys, oreilly's, napa...etc. If not then hit up your local mazda dealer, they can scan it for you.

get the code read! it's probably a minor issue and if you fine out what the code means you can get it fixed and not be so crazy!!!(thumb)

Might be a faulty o2 sensor. Only a free reading at a parts store will tell.

have had the code read several times..............i get a lean code.
after a few days it'll go out, but always comes back.

Lean code very often means you need a new O2 sensor.

Change the sensor and reset the ECU, should take care of the CEL.

A system too lean codes, probably p0171. Only about 1000 possibilities for the cause, least of which would be an O2.

the next time it happens (which could be any day now) i'll get the numbers for the code.
my car will boost 10-12psi normally, and then i drivetrain shock which i suppose is fuel cut?
not long after that the light comes on.

The code was pulled (lean code). And, you can get codes pulled for free at the local Autozone or whatever.

It's probably the O2 sensor as it is the sensor that reads lean/rich from the exhaust flow. There's always the possibility it could be something else, though. With those miles and symptoms I'm guessing an O2 sensor.

"Bone Stock" MSP's do not boost 10-12psi...

You've either got a boost controller installed (not "bone stock") or something else is wrong.

my car has been boosting 10-12 since i got my new motor in october of 03
first motor blew up coming back from MD in early oct. of 03
got new motor from mazda
only thing not stock on it is a K&N panel filter,boost and a/f guages

hmmm... i'm getting the p0171 code now after i just got my p0507 code problem fixed (cleaned the IAC). now tonight out of no where the system to lean code... out of all the codes i've had never this one until i make plans to get my car inspected since i got rid of the other code.

anyone got an idea?

exhaust or vaccum leak, dirty maf. but i haven't had mine since i last reset the ecu cause i installed the mpi. so i don't know what was causing it.
