Tire replacement==what did you use?

On my Factory dunlops, they are pretty sad. Tread is good, but look dry-rotted and no one will cover them. Only have 19,000 miles on them.

Anyways, I see that I can get a set of Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires 195/50-16 HR rated Mounted/Balanced, out the door for $279 including tax. Good deal?

Also, will the HR speed rating make a big difference in handling over the stock Dunlops?

thats not a bad price on tires. i dont know much about the kumho but 279 out the door is not bad at all

But remember that the Kumho 712s are summer tires. Might be a problem in IN.

has to be summer tires

Yeah that sounds a little low for all-season tires, I replaced my tires a couple of months ago, same size, with Dunlop SP MF901 and they were $104 each

check out www.tirerack.com

they have a huge selection and they compare tires and test them. you can also read some user reviews on tires there as well.

and you said nobody will cover your tires? i had a set of Pirelli P6000 on my last car and they began to crack where the tread meets the sidewalls. after playing on the internet and phone for a while i spoke with a Pirelli rep. long story short...i got $200.oo toward my next set of tires. so you should call dunlop and explain the situation, miles, do whatever it takes...but get some money for those bad tires they made.

i only got 15k out of my factory dunlops. the only reason i didnt get pissed is because i work for one of the largest tire distributors in the country and have access to almost any tire i want. i tried the warranty thing with my dunlop rep that comes to the office from time to timeand he just laughed because he has seen me drive.

Where could I find Dunlops #?

they only have email addresses on their website, ill see if i can find the number around here

dunlop sp5000's 195/50/r16 are backordered indefinitely as of this weekend...check out my post toyo v. dunlop for some info. the dunlops are s***...dont give them anymore money.

what sucks about tucson is that they know it never gets bad weather here. tires cost alot here. i had to get 205/50/16 for one of my cars, the cheapest set i could find were $600.

Personally, I would stick with the same or higher speed rating than stock (unless we are talking snows, than I would go no less than an "H", when the stock tires are "V" or greater). On the Protege5, we are talking about a "V" or better. The choices in tires broaden when you consider a 205/50-16 size, which is approx. the same OD as the stock MP3 tire. That would get you a Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 in a "W"...

all right man...did some calling around to local business' basically restating what you told me in this post. here is the number one of the guys gave me...and i checked it out. 1-800-321-2136 its for goodyear, kelley-springfield, and Dunlop. its the assistance center. good luck man...get your money. :)

excitmnt94, good comparison but you'll pay more for the difference, I was going to go with the kumhos' myself but I was a little tight in money so I got the FM901. I can tell you this the FM901 handle really well in wet conditions but are noisy as hell.
