Has anyone tried Dunlop's FM901 in 195-50VR16?

I would like to know if it's a noisy tire since it shares a very similar tread as Yokohama's A520, and that was a VERY noisy choice (it made an unbareable high pitch road noise on my previous car).

And what about Dunlop's SP Sport 9000 (ZR rated)?

Tires in 195-50VR16 are not made by many yet, so choices are limited. I need help on this.:(

Don't know about the P5, but on the MP3 the SP 9000s are stock. They kick ass! unbelievable grip. (Check my autoX results, all on stock tires) Great wet traction, and the noise isn't very bad for a z-rated tire. Great tire, but a little spendy, at least for the 17s.
Hope that helps!

Yes, everything I've ever read about the 901's says they are very noisy. Few on the MiataForum seem to think they are even close to being worth the price, which is VERY reasonable.

I agree with you that choices are pretty slim right now - I'm hoping my OEM tires will last at least until Bridgestone offers a tire in this size - I've had my fill of Dunlops, for sure.

I'm a Yokohama guy (I've had them for over 12 years : summer, 4 seasons and winter), so I can`t wait for them to make a tire for the P5.

Thanks for the tip on the 901's Don, I can't stand noisy rubber.

Why not give the Kumho 712 a look? They're even cheaper than the Dunlop 901, last a bit longer and not as noisy. Dry/Wet performance is very good.

I would like to but I can't find any dealer in my region that carries this brand.

Anyone in the Montreal region who knows where to get them???

Thanks.

I highly recommend the sport 9000s. However, quite frankly the 5000m's that most of us probably got stock are some of the highest rated tires in class.
By the way, hello to everyone. I'm a new member who's owned a p5 since last nov, just getting in here!!!:D

Welcome to our Forum blynzoo. Lots of great people here, and helpful too.

I'm quite satisfied with the OEM tires at the moment, I'm just trying to see the options we have.

yeah...i think in general people couldn't be happier with the stock P5 tires...but now that dunlop had to be stupid and discontinue that model...i have no idea what i'm gonna get after my oems run out...maybe i'll just have to get new wheels

I talked to my Mazda dealer and the guy told me he can get the 5000's for me but at a cost of $142 per and that does not include install.

That's expensive. Said it before, and I'll post it here too. go to Tirerack.com. (Damn I wish I got commission from them) They have the best prices out there on everything. Trust me, I shopped around for almost 6 months and placed my order yesterday.

I just got in a new 5000m today to replace one that blew on my car. They are still available and in production. Tirerack.com is affiliated with Discount Tire Co. If they have a Discount Tire Co. in your area, go get them there. 121.00 plus install (about 14 bucks). Tirerack says they dont have them, but they do (dont ask). Also, department stores (like Sears) with automotive departments can order whatever the hell tire they want, including dunlops. BOth of these places also carry the 9000 (as does tirerack)

Thanks for the info blynzoo. I'll try to find it here.

I have also been very happy with the stock Dunlop 5000 tires. They are quiet on the freeway, track well, seem to do well in the rain, and have good dry grip. Not looking for an all out tire for the P5. Ride, quietness and longevity are just as important as grip to me on this car.
