Tire questions & Water in trunk

Just blew out one of my factory Dunlops today. I had 28K on them. Not too bad from what I am reading.

What tirewould be a good replacement?

Also, I went to take the jack out of the trunk, and the compartment where the jack is located has a couple inches of water lying in it. Anyone else encountered this? What the hell?

28k is amazing i got like 18k out of mine. I dont know how water would have got in there unless u spilled something in the trunk and forgot about it. Do a search for tire replacement there are many opinions. i stayed with the dunlops.

I have the same problem with the water in my trunk.. I saw that there is a TSB on that. But if your car was ever rearended like mine was, it may have to do with the body seams under the tail lights are opened. So I will be taking my lights out and seeing what can be done to correct this. I get water in the side panals when it rains heavily and then I quickly dry it up so it doesnt sit in the wells. Pete

Do a search for Protege FAQ and you will find all the TSB on our cars

HOW DID IT BLOW UP? DID YOU RUN OVER SOMETHING OR WERE THE TIRES BALD?

My tires were getting down there, but were not bald.

I did not hit anything. I was just driving down the freeway and the tire peeled apart on the inside edge

I replaced my Dunlops with Kuhmo Ecsta 711s. Very cheap ($68) from TireRack. Seem to be good so far. They seem to have a little softer sidewall, but I was looking for treadwear and less $$ more than anything, but they have really good grip and work well when it's wet so far.
Actually, I got Discount tire to price match tirerack, and I'd recommend them again.

I am kinda scared now???

I dont wanna have an accident ????

mine have like 29,000 miles but still look good and not bald????

It did not blow and make the steering unstable. It started making a loud noise, and then pieces of the rubber came flying off hitting the wheelwell.

It really was the smoothest flat tire I have ever encountered, if that makes you feel any better. I was going around 70 MPH. The tire sure was hot when I took it off.

Water

My 99 Prot ES had that problem and the dealer fixed under warrenty. No Problem. My jack compartment filled up. They said the tail light leaked. (mspo)

I'd be worried about salt getting in there with the water. I don't see why that wouldn't be covered by the warantee. Have your dealership fix it.

Yeah I have the same water problem. It happens when it rains heavily. I dont even think about it. But what i'm worried about is i have a bubble in one of my tires. I have almost 16k on my car and just rotated them put the bubble tire on the back left. I'm riding it out as long as i can before it blows. I'm looking for new tires as well but not exactly sure what to go with. Something cheap....$$$ i dont want my wallet to be too thin.

stay away from Kumho...seen them bubble. Stay with Dunlop..
Damn I have 23k on my first set... But I really need new ones!
