Tire Questions...quick!

Has anyone had any experience with the Goodyear Eagle GT +4

or the

Nokian Hakkapelitti

I need winter grip tires. My Kuhmo ecsta 712's do nothing in snow!

Can I get away with snow tires on just the front or should I get 4?

Any advice is appreciated. I'm buying after work today!

I heard nokians are best but pricy.... friend of a friend has them on his Audi TT and work great. I opted out for Michelin Acrtic alpins... best investment i have spent on my car.

If you have the money to drop, go for Nokian.

thanks zio. I just called one of my friends whos G.F grew up in Vt and she said that people swear by those hankkaplitta's in winter.
so yeah, I think I'll get them. I was told I should get 4, not just 2. I hate spending money, but I hate getting stuck more.

you can also buy some cheap steelies and tires and studd them your self for really cheap ..it takes mostly time to stud them but a cordless drill or screw driver helps i have done that for years and its awesome you just go to any hardwhere store and get 1/4 inch screws ( the ones that you can use a nut driver on) and start sipping away and you could cover an entire tire in about 45 mins if you do them off the car

I had nokian hakkapeliitta 1's last year (set of 4).
Brand new when I got them.
I recommend another tire...
The Hakka's have a good tread pattern, and are very good if the snow is deep.
They are designed to be studded however, and we aren't allowed stud's in North America (except a few places).
The Hakka 1 has very thin sidewalls, which translates into wobbly cornering, unless you increase the tire pressure, which then gives you a worn patch down the middle of the tire...
The Hakka 1's are not a good tire when your on ice. They weren't designed to be an ice tire, because Nokian figured if you were going to be on ice, you'd have the studs in.
This year I bought a set of Blizzak WS-50's.
I bought them for their ice capabilities. And I have not been let down.
They also have a stronger sidewall, so I was happy with the increased cornering sensations as compared to the Hakka's.
Blizzak's shouldn't cost you much more, and I think you would be quite happy with the increased traction.

I forgot about those Blizzaks... those are good tires too.. had a set on my Suburban... worked great... but honestly so far i would have to say I have been happier with the michelins, though both tires were on different cars, so i cant really make a fair comparison. I will opt for nokians next time w/ studs, just to see what all the hype is about!
