Tire clearcoat/cleaner?

I remember reading somewhere about a clearcoat spray I think that you would put on your rims that protects them and makes them A LOT easier to clean. I am not as interested in the cleaning as I am in protecting. I got my gold rims used and they were painted gold...not powerdcoated like he said they were (pissed) and in one area it is starting to flake off. I would like to clear coat the whole rim but I dont know what standard clearcoat would make the finish look like..glossy? flat? I guess it depends on the clear coat. Any ideas? thanks a lot, Roy

Properly clearcoated paint will be glossy, but in the case of an average person trying to clear their own wheels, it would likely have so much orange peel that it would take on a dull appearance.

Most rims these days are already clearcoated if they are painted. The thing to do is protect them with a wax/sealant just like you would use on your paint because the clearcoat is the same.
