Tips for boosted MSP owners

even at that detonation will come with more air or even denser air. so the cai and fmic would still would not help protect anything

how the **** does this keep u from blowing a motor the only things on your list that help prevent engine damage are colder plugs and high octane gas

All these mods are just extracting the HP the engine should've been production from the start if it was allowed to by the manufacturer. Plus, the engine is actually working easier now that everthing is free flowing and cool. However all that extra power puts stress on the drivetrain.

haha!

are you REALLY telling me that denser(cooler) air is going to cause detonation? are you REALLY telling me that the increased airflow from an intake is going to lean out the MSP's overly rich mixture and cause detonation? please tell me your kidding. i can go into detail for you if you'd like, so you can realize how ludaricus your claims are.

you need some schooling.

keeping charge temps low when boosting higher than stock is nescesary to prevent detonation.

mabyee im wrong but air temp being lower makes for easier detonation thats why people are turning down the boost in the winter

dont bother he just doesnt understand.

i agree with mx3........also, all the mods listed only open the abilty of our motor...it doesnt add to the stress of it because the same amount of air is still goin in and out....when u up the boost is when the stress accures..and i agree again with mx3 when he says the engine blows are not from engine stress but detonation, u provent detonation with coler air and a proper fuel mixture and timing....aka tuning

heh, the reason this thread was started was to clear up the mis-conceptions and give MSP owners concrete facts on how to maintain their car properly after modifications. we really shouldn't have to clear things like this up, but that's why we're here.

like autobox said:
-the maf reads X voltage from the dense winter air and sends a signal to cut fuel.
-denser air helps prevent pre-ignition during the combustion process.

hope this clears up the wrong information you've heard/seen/been told.

These are made up numbers but the point remains the same.. The reason I backed down during the colder months is because 14psi during the winter and 14psi during the summer are too entirely different beasts. Since the air is denser, you're putting down more power in the winter at 14 then you ever will see in the summer at that same setting. Just like how a CAI adds a bit of power because it lets the engine breathe denser air... EVem a stock car will be affected by the air temps. Make sense?
