Timing issues

I was just wondering if timing issues were a national problem or just a Buffalo/Erie thing. It seems like every Autox event I go to there are tons of timing issues, like today it seemed like most of the day was spent sitting around waiting for the bugs to be worked out.

I have experienced timing issues in just about every club I've autocrossed with (6-7 clubs). There are good days and there are bad days....fortunately there are more good than bad. On the worst days, timing issues were still solved quick enough for everyone to get in at least 3 runs. Although...I've also been to numerous events where timing delays paled in comparison to on-track mishaps.

If you're talking about the event at the Ralph...yeah that was a mess. I don't think anyone was paying attention to anything but the heat.

I find that a lot of the issues are because of people just not knowing how the system correctly. With the clemson sports car club we have new members every 4 years and new officers about every year. Despite this we don't have many timing issues since we know how to use the software properly. I have seen with a number of SCCA clubs they end up having issues because of something small that they just don't know how to deal with.

For example many SCCA groups don't know how to reset the start timer in case someone walks through it. I have also seen reruns given to cars where the car left the line before timing had their number in the computer. It doesn't matter when you put the car number in. That is my 0.02 on the topic.

Yea, it seems to be a problem every week though. Also, every time I go to Lake Erie Speedway it's a mess as well. I didn't go to the last one at the Ralph, were you there in a 2?

There, not racing. Never been on the course, somewhat intimidating. Not to mention I'm still running the 4x4 Mazda2, I can't afford springs and shocks yet. Although I'll probably end up running in Stock H with the 2 if a small miracle happens and I can afford suspension upgrades before the next time out. Or if someone wants to insure my Miata for a month I'll run a very, very, VERY under-equipped STR. I wish WNY-SCCA had a training day/training course/dry-run before the actual event.

You don't need springs and shocks. Just get out there and get some valuable seat time. I'm running STF without any real suspension mods and doing just fine.

No need to lower the car. Last year was my first year and I ran my car completely stock, this year I upgraded my tires to ZII's. Put in some seat time and get ready to take on the Mini's that own H stock around here.
