i dont remember. i did hear one horror story tho, FI tho a guy heard a tick and thought it was just the lifters. then he started to drive and a few weeks later his engine blew, the clicking was actually his #1 rod that had started to crack

hmmm...that would give me good reason to go car shopping though. 09 Toyo Taco TRD Sport FTW! haha
It would also give me valuable experience in what to do when your engine blows. lol

Well, only time will tell if I'm an idiot or not.

edit: who knows I could be driving on borrowed time like some of those MP5 guys that have it turboed.

you wont have any problems. just some noisy lifters. maybe your car just likes playing the maccharainas

I've actually noticed that with my car about a month after I got it.
Its not too loud but my friend noticed it first.
It runs great and that was 3 months ago, Im just glad its normal, I was gonna check it if it got louder

Ticking

The ticking on my b6 and BPT is the lifters and usually happens when oil is low or old.
I have recently switched from 10/30 to 5/30 Mobil 1 Extended Performance and the ticking is gone.

How much liquor? lol

I've got 10W-30 oil....Mobil1 fully synthetic. They didn't have the
extended performance in that grade.

You probly need a valve ajustment the valve get noisy if you don't ajust them I think the recomended interval for valve ajustment is 75,000 miles.

10/30 does come in extended and supposedly the extended has more of something that is good for lifters
Actually I was in a rush and wasn't sure if I was getting an oil change that day so instead of getting 4 quarts of extended life from Kragen, I had to stop at a smaller parts place on my way (Monument Auto Parts) and they didn't have the extended life stuff.

Too bad I only have like 3800 miles on it.
Should I call and ask if my friendly dealer service center can check and adjust accordingly?

the 2.3 has no adjustments for lifters, period. in fact 99% of hydraulic lifter engines have no adjustments for lifters, that is why they are hydraulic. if you are hearing a noise only on cold start ups on the passenger side of the engine compartment, it could be the variable valve timing actuator. if its just a slight tick its normal, all engines will do this.

It used to be a slight tick but now it's like this heavy bomb timer type of tick...quite loud too. I heard it this morning when I was sitting in the garage with everything closed just ticking its life away.

Once it warms up the ticking is more normal volume...like you can only hear it when the hood is open.

well yeah.....that's what we've been saying it's maily to do with oil.....aka after sitting all night the oil drains down.....and once it started oil starts circulating.....NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU CAR(bang)(deadhorse

not sure if your questions been answered or whatevs cuz im to lazy to read the whole thread lol

but what weight engine oil are you using? normally when it ticks like that, really loud, ur too thin
but with synthetic oil, its thin to begin with so u could try conventional and see if that helps...but who uses conventional now days lol

Yeeeeeep. It's only after the engine has fully cooled so that would still apply just not as much...kinda. Eh, wutev. It's been answered.

I use 10W-30 Mobil1 synthetic.
