Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick BOOM! Lifters ticking?

This started a little while ago (maybe a week) but when I start the car and it's been cooled down fully the the engine ticks...REALLY F-IN LOUD. Like a timer on a bomb from the Roger Moore and Sean Connery Bonds. I have no idea what it is, I thought it could be the lifters or something with the timing belt but it's around the fanbelt area (passenger's side) of the engine whenever I start it and it isn't warmed up. If this helps you can hear it from everywhere...even inside the car if you listen for it over the humm of the engine. Oil was changed at 3064 miles.

Now I've never EVER had this problem with this car before so should I be concerned and haul its ass up to Mazda for a check? Or is this normal after a certain amount of mileage/time?
There's about 3800 on the clock (probably less)
It's about 6-7 months aged.

Anything on this is greatly appreciated since it could blow me up or be absolutely nothing.
Thanks guys!

ya i think i know what u are talking about..my 3 does the same thing.
when i first got it, it was whisper quiet..now it clicks like you say.
i think it should be normal after all the hauling u give it...thats just me;)

after everytiime i put fresh oil it dies a lil but comes back....i used to worry about it......right now i would probably worry if i didn't hear it

lol I worry that it's there!
It wasn't there when I got it and just appeared like a week ago but it sounds like something is wrong I just don't know what. So I guess it's normal. Who knew?! (besides you guys)

apparently it's just common with the type of motors and lifters......nothing bad....if it was bad it wouldn't run

i was worried too when i first noticed it...and sumwhat bummed for some reason. but i just got over it and realized it was normal for a car to sound that way.

Or it wouldn't run for much longer.
Lets see how quickly it starts in a few days...I just vacuumed the hell out of the interior so it better not give me ANY s***.

edit: I am bummed, now the V8 in the Exped is quieter than mine! (when it's cold) There goes me stalking people...damn. This car has a lot of firsts that I've never heard or felt before. Crazy japanese, now I know why they call them crazy.

We still haven't gotten an answer as to what it is that's ticking exactly...

lifters? valves?

Somebody tell me!!!! (so I can replace it...and make it non-ticking...with an upgrade)

dude...calm down with your bad self....every engine has it's lil noise....our's are the lifters.....IT'S GOOD

and people thought i was hyper

lol
It does other weird things too. I just want to replace them. (glare)

haha who thought you were hyper?
but yea bro its no biggie...just learn to deal with it...even if you replace. it will turn out the same with time.

Only if you don't properly lube them...a bottle of vaseline does the trick every time! lol

I could see the commercial now..."does your car have random ticks and squeaks? does your engine need to be lubricated more frequently than you want it to be? Does your fanbelt squeal? Then add some jelly into that belly and put a full bottle of Vaseline in your gas tank every fill up! Apply some to the belts, hoses, and other miscellaneous parts of your car! Is that lifter driving you insane? Silence it forever with an industrial sized bottle of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly! Guaranteed to take the squeak out of your car's peak."
Ahhh, the lawsuits they would have...

um....so you have vasoline sitting around the house....WOW.....(uhm)(bolt)

I just might. lol You never know what might happen...

Yes, I always have Vaseline around the house. (jerkit) (that was up on the right, didn't have to search for it, antoine can read minds. ooooooooohhhahahaha)

i think there is actually something you can put in your oil to stop it? i dont remember what its called. my car has been doing that since i bought it. not one problem tho

Great to hear! Since I already changed the oil and don't feel like adding anything now. lol
I think I know what you're talking about...BG MOA maybe...
