thunder header

Thunder user here. The fit is a bit tight, but they go on all right.

They should be good for about 4-5 at the wheels (I'm dynoing at +7-9 bhp with this, a cat-delete and a K&N on my 142hp Asian-spec 2.0) without any other major mods.

Kinda sluggish at low rpms or low throttle, but they kick in nicely over 4000 rpm.

they're both 4-1...i'd get the obx. i've read that the thunder/pseudo (sp?) headers have had problems with the flange not being straight.

Um, PLEASE be careful about your facts. Thunder and Tsudo are 100% different companies from different countries. You can't even compare the quality.
Would you mind please editing your post?

I've sold MANY Thunder headers and you can ask anyone on this forum who has one. I've had one complaint about a downpipe section that the buyer claimed did not bolt up correctly. I asked on several occasions for pics from that person and it never happened, nor did I ever hear anything else, so I'll assume it was probably installed incorrectly.

Any header is going to hurt the power at lower RPM to an extent, but you are right, they do kick in nicely. All of Thunder's stuff is a tight fit, they don't leave any room for error.
Where are you located? Not the U.S., right?

though the badge on the header came off but thats just a minor problem coz it's not going to affect performance...8 months and counting...still a happy user:)

Well, the price for a 2.0 is going to come in around $295 but unfortunately I am out at the moment.
Maybe I'll start a GB this week, I've had a lot of inquiries.

any header will perform worse than stock at lower rpms?

I've had my Thunder for a few months now and I love it. The 2-piece design and built-in CEL-eliminator made installation a snap with no fitment issues at all. Most headers come close to rubbing on the oil pan but the fact that the Thunder is a 2-piece design allows you to adjust the lower pipe well out of the way of the oil pan. It was harder to take out the stock manifold than it was to install the Thunder!

Gains are very noticeable but there probably isn't a difference in power between the Thunder and any other 4-1 header. The low-end will suffer with almost any mod that enhances better flow. A 4-2-1 design will give you a little better mid-range power than a 4-1 design but both will decrease low-end. But who the hell lives below 3000 rpms anyway? Anyway, the decreased low-end is barely noticeable especially if the car is a daily driver like mine. You can see a small pic of my Thunder in my sig.

I hope this question won't start any war for the 2 vendors here..but OBX is 230 and thunder is 295.......

What make the thunder worth 65$US more....

cause although they are 4-1 headers.. they are both complete diff in a sence

they are both 4-1 headers

the obx cost is less due to mass production.

it's the little things, like having the welded o2 fix, 2 piece convienence, etc.

otherwise they are similar, being stainless steel, tig welded, 4-1 headers

baller-> thunder

budget-> obx

Thanks ghetto w.
Any buyer needs to look at what's available, the differences between them and decide what's right for themselves.
And SKY,you will never see me knock another vendor
or his product on this forum or any other so no war started here for me.

And BTW, a new GB has started.

i wish someone would come out with a design like racing mazda's 4-2-1 header. i LOVED that thing...too bad it's still on my p5 i traded in :(

Yup. Philippines. Lived for a few years in New York before we moved here permanently.

RE: Fit... yes, it's kind of tight, thank God they made it two piece so we could shove it in. The O2 socket and EGR hookup were also a painless fit.

RE: logo... mine fell off, too, but I bought it secondhand off another guy who went turbo, so I don't feel so bad.

RE: torque... I'm running no other major mods besides this and a test-pipe, and I'm happy with it. While initial torque is noticeably lower, the car tests with a higher torque peak overall and pulls nicely to the redline... it's still rising, in fact, when the 6.5k limiter kicks in, unlike the stock system, which basically went huff-puff-fall flat after 6000 rpm. :)

Of course, much of the torque gain from the headers is from the deletion of the first cat... that's why 4-1 headers don't hurt your low-end torque curve as much as you'd think... not until you go for bigger piping downstream.
