Throttle water and BATs

After putting on my FMIC and not getting enough drop in BAT to totally satisfy me, I bypassed the throttle water today and bam, instant 20+ degree drop and regularly running in the range from 100 to 120. Makes the car feel alot better at that temp, definitely. I let it idle in the driveway for 1/2 hour and the temp never climbed over 120. Stock it would have been 150+ sitting like that.

There's still sitting water in the TB, hopefully this will be sufficient to keep the TB from melting from EGR heat. This engine doesn't really use alot of EGR, as far as I can tell, though.

The coolant isn't there to keep it cool from the EGR, its to keep it hot in the winter so it doesn't freeze (since it is a throttle by-wire and you are kind of SOL if that happens).

I have heard others do it before without problem but not sure what kind of winters they have and if they ran a front mount through it.

Definitely interesting to know though, going to have to look into it a bit more for me to do it because we have a pretty cold winter here.

I'M trying to find the post talking about the relocating kit for the BAT betwen the throtle body and the intake.

TB icing is far more likely in warm, humid conditions than cold, dry ones, like winter time. That said, the typical mild, rainy winters I get here on the Wet Coast of Canada might be just the ticket. I let everyone know if it happens.

Subbing... Was also thinking about TB coolant relocation, but was waraed of TB freezing. We have very humid climate here, in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, and out typical temperature for October is +5..+10 C, November - -5..+5 C, winter temps are about -25..-10 C and lot of rain and snow typically.

Heh, mine is wrapped already lol :) When you drive on a highway, TB gets really cold at winter times.

I have had a TB freeze on me before (but it was a 94 Dodge Spirit). It was not fun as it happened during a pass and got stuck pinned nearly fully open.

I still have yet to search for results on this car yet but I will do that now.

yet another reason to sweat like a pig in Tampa

Yep, if you sit in traffic for a while and then go, you can see the indicated BATs drop below IAT for a short bit, something that'd never happen with the stock TMIC and the throttle water in place.
