that wouldnt get down into the lug nut holes.
and its for polishing wheels anyway, not for cleaning them

negative!! never use the mothers power ball on clear coat wheels unless you want to have them repainted and clear coated again. it states right on the product "only intended for polished aluminum wheels.

If you can find them, there are brushes designed for exactly that application with long bristles that are soft enough for powdercoat or chrome. Occasionally you can find brushes originally made for dusting inside vents, and you can use that. Alternatively, you can pick up a medium to low quality brush at a hardware store, and cut the bristles to suit the need. Be careful with the bristle material, since plastics of any kind scratch paint, but boar's hair, horse hair, and other natural hairs do not.
A good foaming spray will lift the dirt stuck under the lug nuts, but again be careful with what solvent you use.
