this weekend's dyno results

i've attached the 3 dyno run graphs to date. i just put them all in an excel spreadsheet and plotted them to the same graph. interesting results!

the blue line is with these mods :
injen cai, denso iridium plugs (IK20), magnecor spark wires, gutted pre-cat, front engine mount

yellow line add :
custom cams, head work, grounding wires, rear engine mount, coolant hose to & from TB removed

red line add :
AWR header (heat coated), 2.5" mandrel exhaust, cam gears (although not dialed in)

what mods next? definately change out the resonators for better ones. the exhaust guy i went to said the ones i have would rob atleast a few whp. that'll be done after the next dyno run at the new shop (so i can compair this dyno run and that dyno run). then will be intake cam reworking. then i'm not sure. i can feel my clutch starting to struggle now, still ok, but next will probably be clutch and flywheel and underdrive pulleys all at once....have to wait and see if the wife allows me ;) hehehehe

Good job Twilight! Thanks for keeping us informed.

Slightly OT, but how does your car run with the mods you have now? Idle ok? Accelerate smoothly? Really loud? Just wondering.

thanks

scorch - idle is fine, just a little bumpy (mainly due to the engine mounts), acceleration is very smooth and uniform. almost completely flat torque curve from idle to redline, loudness - with the silencer in the muffler it's no louder than before exhaust (engine mounts add a lot of noise though). with the silencer out it's a little noisy, but quite easy to drive with (except at highway speeds)......but outside the car, loud yes. but i dont care....i'm not outside the car ;) hehehehehe

Cool. Thanks for the info Twilight. Keep up the good work. You are cutting a path for the rest of us N/A guys. I'm really looking forward to when you go pay Haltech a visit! :)

That dyno graph is very impressive. Even though the peak isnt that high they area under the curve is very nice and linear. I also like the comparison. I am assuming this is whp? What are your torque numbers? I am surprised the resonator made such a difference. Although changing the intake cam would probably also be helpful. either way very nice. Do u want to add it to the dyno library? or should i?

pretty impressive, i urge you to do a quarter mile before the flywheel and pulley. Thats where you really gonna see the gains. not on the dyno. but your accel will increase a mensly. Also aftermarket stage CM clutches dont seem to work at wheel as a stage two CM with a aftermarket flywheel.

akhilleus - when i have the dyno print out scanned, i'll add both it and the comparison to the dyno thread. what i might do as well (thanks for the idea), is also plot torque curves since torque and power are directly related.....will update the comparison picture soonish...

here's the graphs with torque added into them

it's a little cluttered, but you get the idea

Hey Twilight, are you doing pulls in 3rd or 4th gear? From the speed, it looks to be 3rd. If so, you might get slightly better numbers in 4th. Some do, some don't. Worth a try next time you go maybe.

scorch70

yeah the pulls are in 3rd. the first run was in 3rd, so that's what i'm sticking with. on our cars it should be more accurate. you want to be as close to 1 as possible with the gear ratios, but not under 1.

also, do those torque figures seam low to anyone???

You know, I just looked back at your dyno Twilight, and holy s***, your HP curve is still going up when you let off. Mine dropped off after 5500 rpm or so. So even though your highest reading was ~123, your true max HP could be quite a bit higher than this. Did you run it up to redline? If so, it may be time for you to look at a piggyback, so that you can move your redline higher. Cool.

scorch70

yeah the torque numbers do seem low, although since it was done in 3rd maybe that accounts for it. I believe your equation is correct...where is gen1gt when we need him? but yeah your Hp curve goes way off the chart. Have u adjusted your cam gears yet or is this still unadjusted?

scorch - everything i'm doing now is aimed at a redline of 7500, so at redline i'm still on the up. just need a piggy that allows an increased rev limit (still investigating my options here).

i havent changed my cam gears atm. still on 0 and 0. when i get the intake cam reworked i'll start to play around a little more with the cam gears. i can do it now, but it's a pain (head cover off, adjust, head cover back on etc). i need to cut out something that will allow me to adjust the cam gears without having to remove so much stuff.

yeah i will cut it somehow, but i'd like it to be neat and also stop as much dust as possible getting in there.

going to the 1/4's on 31 july - it's a test and tune day so i'll try and do atleast 10 runs and see how i go. i've never drag raced before, so it'll be a learning experience

im going to say upper 15s(not bad for n/a p5 though)...trap speed i won't guess because i dunno what you will get.
