With the rest of the auto industry in a slump (to say the least), Mazda's own US sales off over 25% from last October, the bright star in terms of sales increases was the Mazda5.


Money quote:
"Bucking the sales trend with an incredible sales month was the MAZDA5 multi-activity vehicle. With sales of 1,921, volume was up nearly four times over 2007. On a year-to-date basis, the MAZDA5 is up an astonishing 51.8 percent."(wiggle)

[Here's the monthly sales report I've been doing, it just adds the historical monthly sales from 2007 and 2008]

North America Mazda released their October 2008 sales data and 1,921 Mazda5s were sold in October, up 244.3% from the previous September.

That's 17,638 Mazda5s Year-To-Date.

For comparison Mazda sold 6,095 Mazda3s in October.

Here's the data I could gather from 2008 and 2007.

In this environment that Oct sales for the Mazda5 were remarkable!


Too bad the other Mazda lines were so bad.

Maybe this will convince Mazda to finally commit to spending more time and money on advertising and improving the 5 in N. America.

Other carmakers' lines bombed as well, wouldn't make much of Mazda USA's stagnant sales.

The 2008 Mazda5 wasn't available until December 2007, so this quadruple sales boom might be a bit exaggerated.

But the fact that the Mazda5 sales actually went UP from the previous month is really a surprise (especially how the economy tanked in Oct)

For comparison the Kia Rondo (Mazda5's closest competition) tanked in Oct.
