This is the 2015 Mazda2

If the projectors (HID or LED?) are not offered here, that will be just plain disrespectful. They are integral to the design of the car. To even offer it without them is kind of idiotic looking.

That reflector headlight no look too good. Look like caveman design it. Look like caveman give up. Look like caveman smash.

The knobs in the lower photo I could live with, but it is insulting to have this sh*t eternally decontented for our market.

I'm liking what I see in that carscoops gallery overall, though.

I think the Canadian model will come with all the Japanese goods, at least that's what my dealer told me today :) Sorry for you guys down south tho

I like the minimalist interior. Looks like it does have a fourth vent afterall - it's just camoflauged into the dash. While I like the new exterior better than the current model the side profile looks awfully like a smaller, lowered CX-5.

Definitely a good facelift. Just tell me, now, what engine options does it have? What transmission? How much does it weigh? How much does it cost? Very interested in the answers to these questions.
Engine is the biggest question at this point. If it maintains a 1.5L engine with ~100 hp and ~100 ft-lb it had better get 35+/45+ mil/gal city/highway to be competitive with the new 3. Otherwise the only benefit is lower cost. Speaking off, with more features and inflation I imagine cost is going to go up. Especially if some of these options everyone is desperate for are included (e.g. "Speed" version, HID headlights, etc.). Considering the length is increased 6 inches and the height 1 inch I imagine the new car will be heavier as well.

I like the side profile. It looks similar to the current car which is good IMO. Sadly it will be built in Mexico instead of Japan.

Mazda did it with the our Mazda 2's and we'd all agree the projector headlights look 1000% better than the lamps we got. I agree with you that there should be ZERO reason why we as American's should not have options. If we want to spend the extra money to include the projector headlight and the fancy AC knobs that decision should be on the buyer. Not the manufacturer. If it's already made for the car it should be offered. Even if i have to buy it from Mazda Japan itself. Rant over....

And i can't live with those cheap 1990 AC knobs and so can't like 40 of you that bought my AC knobs. haha :)

The business case for offering the options is actually quite clear. Those of us really interested in a car this size (all you have to do is look at the B-Segment, and what many people actually end up spending on, say Fiestas and Fits, aka, 3-4k more than we spent), and those who appreciate some premium accents/options, are all willing to pay more for those premium accent options. The alternative, is that we end up elsewhere eventually. I would rather spend my money with Mazda though!

This is my #1 concern. Horsepower. Some of as are willing to pay extra for a will equipped super-mini.

Exactly. People bought higher end Fiestas and Fits. FIAT and MINI are having zero issues selling premium sub compact hatches. Mazda should bank on it's "ZOOM ZOOM" and put some ZOOM ZOOM in the new Mazda 2. Unfortunately i think it's a pipe dream.

I think Mazda USA intended the Mazda2 as a volume model. That didn't work out so let's hope they change directions with the new one. I always thought that the 2 was a much nicer car than the Yaris or the Fit. Even my MINI/Fiat owning friend described it as a "premium" small car.

The 2 for North America will, yeah. But the Demio for Japan will still be built in Hiroshima.

There is a 1.5L gas skyactive motor too. It's just not in play yet. At least according to several of the articles. Here's to hopin'...

Looks like it would be pretty similar to what we have now, but maybe just slightly peppier:

Honestly, I'm feeling less and less bad about keeping my current 2. The new grill and headlights are a nice design, but I've never been too bothered by what I have now.

All things considered, it's pretty impressive that they added a bunch of tech features (blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, satnav) and made the car longer & taller, and only managed to add 88 pounds to the weight of the car.
