This hesitation is horrible!

It's never been so bad before, I just installed an Injen SRI last night. I removed my FPR, but I didn't think it would make that big of a difference. From 2k to 3.2k the entire car bogs down, boost slowly builds and it drags its way across the rpms. Soon as it hits 3.3k the car takes off like a rocket and builds all the way to 11psi. Wtf is going on?

You're not going to see full boost until close to 3000 rpms or so...it sounds more like turbo lag. Hesitation occurs around 4K or so.

Before I installed the Injen SRI (Injen pipe from turbo to maf filter on maf) there was no hesitation, whatsoever. I removed my FPR because I didn't want to drill a hole into the pipe. It has to be a the hesitation, the car drops down, makes no power at all, and just drags across the tach. It lasts maybe 5 -6 seconds and then boom, the car is gone.

Yeah it's just weird that it's not happening where the hesitation usually happens.

Might possibly be a loose connection with the Injen somewhere, but I doubt it.

All the connectors are on there tight. The only ghetto part about it is where you are supposed to connect a hose from the pipe to the motor. I took a breather and put it on the pipe on the motor, took the hose that was attached to the motor, stuck it on the pipe and then stuck my airtemp sensor in that. Again, I didn't want to drill holes in the pipe, and the hose wouldn't stretch from the pipe to the motor.

I asked Joe P about this as I bought the FPR and wanted to install it without drilling a hole in my Injen. Here's my question:I have bought your MBC, FPR, and FCD from various members on the MS board. I have a question about installing the FPR when running the Injen CAI. The instructions state to drill the hole on the pipe 3-4 inches after the MAF. Now, with the Injen, someone on the site said to mount the FPR in the silicone connector right after the MAF. That's obviously not 3-4 inches, but i don't want to drill a hole in my Injen intake. Any solution for me?

And his response:You can either tap into the silicone coupler or you can just leave that hose disconnected and tied off to the side somewhere. The 3-4" thing was just as a guideline and doesn't have anything to do with tuning or anything.
Joe P

Meaning, you can put your FPR back on without messing up your intake.

the stumblin and bad power sound sliek a boost leak....but its weird hwo it kicks in real quick

Funny...i had the same hesitation problem back when i put a cone filter straight on the MAF(with the stock turbo pipe. I could never figure it out so i just went back to stock.

Before I put the Injen on I had a pipe connected to the maf with a filter on the end, stock plastic piping behind the maf. I drilled a hole in the pipe for the airtemp sensor and that was that. No hesitation. Now I have hesitation big time, could the air temp sensor be the culprit?

What spark plugs are you using? If you are using the NGK BKR7E's, get rid of them and replace with the Denso KJ22CR-L8 (what I use) or the NGK ZFR7F-11. I went with Denso since they are already pregapped to .8mm. I did that last week and what a world of difference it made. I've swapped out everything in the car and checked every combination possible and when I did that, it took care of it. All I have now is the stumbling from the rich A/F ratio. I hope this helps.

Hehe, funny thing is someone suggested I check the gap on my plugs, he said the plugs on his neon went from .32 to .40 or something after he drove it real hard.. Yes I'm using the NGK Bkr7E's, and I plan on switching to the ZF's. Also, I'm gonna reset the ecu tonight, see if that makes a diff in the morning. On a side note, the srt-4 guy said he loved the sound of my turbo and blow off valve. I love the Injen SRI :)

what psi are you running with the denso plugs

stupid question - did you reset the ecu when you were putting on the SRI? I'm not certain it makes much of a difference, but it might be part of the reason for your hesitation. ??

Dontcha just hate it when you get super frustrated and can't figure something out, and then it turns out to be something simple like this? Pisses me off.... stupid brain....

Right now I am running stock boost, took my controller off so I don't get myself into trouble. I was running about 11 psi though no problem. When I get my stuff from iON, I will probably put it back on and run about 9.
