Thinking of turbocharging your P5? Here's a guide for getting started...

We need a MS maps thread like the ones on here for the other EMS systems.... Too little support for the protege MS combo!...

Exhaust trouble.. HELP!

I recently had a 3" exhaust installed and everytime I start the car I can hear it bang somewhere... Cant seem to figure out why its doing that cos the exhaust was on an MSP before and should be a perfect fit... I have the stock mounts and hangars; Can it be because these are allowing too much flex?... I also could not get the little bolt that goes on the J pipe to fit in there cos the alignment is a little off... but I did not think it would affect anything. any ideas??

It sounds like you have leak somewhere. Check all your gaskets on your exhaust. I believe banging of two metals hitting each other caused by the vibration from the motor. Often its the connection to the mid-pipe.

might be hitting the crossmember
local guy over here has the 3" vibrant and his is pretty much resting on the crossmember, you need to buy washers and space it out a little bit to clear

if thats not it then what he^ said

Got under the car and asked someone to start it while I look, Turns out the bend before the gas tank is too close to the underbody panel there, and like you said it is because the motor is flexing when I start.... not sure there is anything I can do.... but it only happens during cranking/starting so it should be OK?...

yea mine hits there too, you could try loosing the bolts on all flanges and try repositioning it and then tightening them back down...
mine has always hit there, ive tried adjusting it numerous times and nothing

Think i'll just leave it be... lol... mine is welded all the way so the only adjustments I can make are at the hangars...I'm thinkin of putting something soft (and heat resistant) between the underbody and the exhaust... Thanks for the info...

I have the idea of how to set up the turbo and I'm am going to run a turbonetics t3t4 50 trim but I'm not sure of what type of ecu to run and where can I get it?

So I just boosted My p5 and everything seems to be ok however when I come across a stop and let go of the clutch the car shuts off. Does anyone have a quide on how to make sure all the boost lines are connected well,(i.e. wastegate, turbo, boost controller, blow off valve)(Pics will also help)???

Are you running a BOV or a bypass?
If a BOV: is the BOV between the throttle and the MAF?

i have the bov after the throttle and going down to the intercooler, my maf is coming from the pipe out of the turbo followed by my intake.

The BOV is after the throttle? In the intake manifold or the head? 0.o

That was a pretty backwards explanation, but it SOUNDS like the BOV is between the throttle and the MAF, which is your problem.

Sorry, I have the BOV on the pipe coming out the intake manifold, I would try to take pics but its too late now and dont have my camera handy.

Nevermind fellas, figured out the idle problem. Now i got a new problem, bad wastegate. Now looking for a new one and I should be good to go on the boost build.

So I remember reading (way back in the day) that the MSP had serious torque steer problems. How does the P5 drive with the turbo set up? Does the smaller contact patch make any difference? Just looking for feedback on the drivability of the car, this is something I am considering as a future build.

Is there anywhere else to get water return/feed fittings? And does anyone have any pics of what they look like? It's pretty pricey on onlinemazdaparts.com so I'm wondering if there's another place I can source them from, other than used.
