thinking of getting rid of the MSP

I keep thinking about getting an MSM for the following reasons:
- 1.8l engine is awesome - much smoother and better sounding than the MSP engine, especially at high RPMs
- better resale - miata's keep their value better than any Protege
- built by Mazda in Japan - better quality performance parts than the MSP; not as many engine or suspension problems as MSP
- the shifter in the MSM is much more precise than the MSP and it has shorter throws
- better handling
- faster
- costs less to insure
- convertible

the above are facts and not opinions like so many of the comments in this thread seem to be.

buy and customize a car because you like it, not because of any comments from the peanut gallery.

It's cheaper to insure the MSM than an MSP? Hah, that's interesting.

More food for thought.. It's cheaper for me to insure a 98 Vette than my P5.

Since you like it so much why don't you hurry up and do it...

The miata has Way more potential than any 4-door econo-box ever will. :) You could put a turbo kit together for under 1500 bucks and smoke anyone on this site...and most of the money would go into engine management. Miatas are fun as hell, and anyone who talks s*** on one has probably never driven one.

Chick Car?(56K (yawn)) http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wNTk1MjI5NnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D
I can make a '71 Toyota Corolla smoke anyone on this site, too. But the miata is still a chick car.
Sorry. I don't have to be a girl, to know what a girl looks like.

Eh, for what it's worth the Celica GT-S and Eclipse GSX are both considered "chick cars" too.

And I once had a girl tell me my 450hp Mustang was "cute."

Go for the Miata and join me in CSP next season. Anyone that calls the Miata girly hasn't much of a clue about the car's capablilities (or perhaps even what they're talking about). I don't think the SCCA and NASA designated and entire class (Spec Miata) to one car based on the "cute" factor.

It's not it's performance numbers (or lack thereof) that makes it a chick car. It's the way it looks. You look at it and go "I wonder if the chick who drives that car is hot?". It's feminine. But I think it's a good-looking chick car to be sure.

They aren't the most masculine looking cars stock, but I think even the looks can get injected with enough testosterone that even a rainbow bumbersticker would be ignored and straight guys would respect.

I still think the problem is I think I boost wants to change cars to save some scratch and not dump more money into the msp. To make the miata a great car (one he'd be happy with) requires just as much if not more money than the msp he has already . I say cut your losses Matt and hang in there and enjoy the msp. If you decide you want a miata after your loan is paid then go for it but for now buying a used miata isn't going to cure your mod but, infact I'm guessing it would make it worse because of the potential of the bp.

Also very good points to consider...especially from a man who knows enough about money to run a good business.

MSP > Miata

.. If you're lookin' at it from a money point of view, I dunno, all cars are SORT OF the same. If you want to modify your car, it's always gonna cost $$$, MSP or Miata. If you're looking to leave it stock, however, that's a different story. Not sure which one you're lookin' to do, but in general, a person who likes to modify is a person who likes to modify.

.. Plus, the Miata lost all appeal to me when some guy driving an older red one followed me home from work about a week and a half ago. No, I'm not kidding. If I'd been paying attention sooner, I never would've gone home -- but I was tired, it was late, and I pulled into my lot before I fully picked up on things. The ****** definitely followed me home, stood there trying to strike up a conversation for a half hour in a dark parking lot at 11:30pm, and has tried to chase me down various streets ever since. And no, I'm not kidding.

Miata = scary .. For me, at least.
