Thinking of getting a MP5 and not a MSP

As many of you have known I have been on here for a while and interested in a MazdaSpeed. I really want the Yellow 03.5 but would settle for an orange 03. That is until now, I am thinking of saving some $$ and getting a fun vehicle too. Right now I drive a 4 cyl. S-10 with no cajones, so a P5 would be a step up for me in speed. I luv' the look of it, I like the idea of the racks for snowboarding, the sunroof, and the hatch back. Oh and why is the Protege the only mazda with boaring tail lights? They should have at least stepped them up for the Speed. So if I were to get a P5 I could save about 3K and put it towards an older Trooper for off-roading. I have always wanted a truck for offroading and when the P5 isn't fast enough for me I can throw in a Turbo, 'F' the waranty!:D So am I just too damn in decisive? (SP?)
But first things first, need to sell my truck. I have had two guys fall thru on buying it. :(

I really like the look of the Protege 5, and I was close to possibly buying one last September when my wife bought her Protege ES. I didn't obviously. And then; about 2 weeks later, is when I heard about the upcoming release of the MAZDASPEED. My life hasn't been the same since. I am so glad I was patient, and waited. I don't know if you have driven the MAZDASPEED yet or not. But if you haven't, and are not wanting to spend the extra for the MSP - don't drive one!! If you do drive the MAZDASPEED, that will most likely end any hope of you buying the Protege 5. It is that good!!

well I had actually told my dealer that I would buy a p5 insted of the msp cause I was running out of time on my s10 lease. butt then i found one at a dealed in detroit and the as they say is history. but bacj to the p5. I LOVED IT. comming from an s10 pos it is like driving a bmw. well mabey not but it was a huge step up. I did not really like the station wagon idea at first but once i drove it and realized that it did not feel like a wagon i was sold. i also like the fact that you can fit a ton of crap in the back, hope my situation is of some help to you either way you decide to go you will be happy.

I do like the idea of being able to fit a bunch of stuff in it, and I like fixing up my rides and have been gaining contact in the Import industry that would allow me to get sponsored for some items. It is soo practicle and the suspension is not up to the quality of a MSP but it is still tops in the industry.

both are awesome choices.

p5: roof rack, large object hauling capacity, regular gas, cruise control, cheaper insurance, cheaper to buy. All very nice to have.

MSP: GREAT value for what you get. seriously.

I guess it comes down to whats more important in a car for you. both are visually simmilar/appealing. but if you need alot of cargo space you will not be happy with the msp. having said the msp has an enormous amount of trunk space for a compact. it is ovbiously not as much as say a ford crown vic. but I can manage to fit 2 sets of clubs in the trunk with the sub not even getting touched

I was wondering if the MSP had cruise control? That is another thing that I don't have now that I would want! Yeah, I think you guys will find me over on the Protege 5 board mostly from now on. Don't get me wrong I luv' the MSP and I wish it would work out for me.... Dear Mazda, can you get to work on a MSP5 please. You don't have much time, my truck won't be for sale for ever! HA HA.

I drove both before I bought my MSP. They are two very different rigs. For the long haul the P5 is simply more practical. For the instant gratification you have to go with the speed. I owned a Pickup just like you and almost never used the bed. I just missed being able to comfortably fit, not squish, 4 people in a vehicle. If you get good mileage out of the extra storage space in your truck then the P5 might be the better fit.

Good luck!

Yup, two different beasts. I originally wanted a P5 as well, but the woman couldn't get passed the idea that it was a wagon. So we got the mp3.

Glad I did now. I've driven ooodles of P5's in the past 2 yrs, and I am so glad I got the mp3. I had a hatch once, and I did love it. I don't carry a lot of big stuff, so I don't really miss it anymore.

Performance wise, at least in their stock form, there's no comparison. one is a grocery go getter with a little zoom zoom in mind and great handling considering it is a wagon. The other is all about Zoom Zoom, pure handling, and people who could care less about fitting a 32" TV in the back.

So which one are you?

Damn you newf! Why you gotta call me out like that! It's not a wagon! It's a hatch back! It's not a grocery getter, it can be a turbo charged snowboard carrier! Ha ha I don't know wich one I am????

Both Baby!

I purchased a new 2002 PR5 for my wife in Feb of last year and we have put 28000 miles on it in 12 months. It is a little Midnight Blue rock.
Drives like a 3 series and costs like a Mazda. No problems at all.
Looks, smells (very important with 3 kids), and drives like new.
We even hauled the materials for 1320 ft of fence in this thing.
You ever seen huge Rednecks at Home Depot watch two relatively small people put four 4' x 100' rolls of wire into a little blue wagon with the seat down? And then tie down ten 10' 2x4's on the roof top carrier and drive away. It was great. We used a tarp in the back to protect the interior and I lifted through the back doors while my wife lifted from the hatch up towards the front.
We repeated this process over several trips until we had all we needed.
Very cool...

Ah chapter 2: True Love

I walked into my KICK ASS Mazda Dealer Randy Hiley in Arlington Texas to buy a loaded 6S, 5 speed with a sport package.
However, when I arrived I was suddenly smitten by this odd little car that looked a lot an IS 300 with an attitude. I was curious so I had to inquire further. Well all it took was a single sit down in that beautiful little chunk of Black Sunshine and I was sold. The salesman just laughed and said to my Wife (who was standing outside of the car a few feet away), "How do like your new car?" The stereo flipped out and he handed my 9 yr old daughter (who was in the backseat) the remote control she went all coo coo with delight. I thought it was gonna be a Ritalin moment.
She regained her sanity and we went for the inaugural drive. The salesman held on for dear life as we whooshed down some fresh unstained concrete. The road ran between brand new unoccupied industrial warehouses. No traffic, 2 miles long up a slight rise with some tasty s-bends.
That was it I HAD to buy this car. So the 6 became a MSP and as they say, The rest is history. Well two very great days of it anyhow. I live South of Fort Worth and it would ice (6 inches of it no less) the first work day ( 2 days) after I buy the car.
Sleep well my little Black Mica darling Daddy is waiting on that b**** Mother Nature so we can be together again :)
Oh yeah 438.00 a month, nothing down rolled the TTL and got a 5.9 % 60 month loan to buy. That's with an 800.00$ 75000 mile warranty and gap insurance. I feel I got a good deal. I have really good credit and I hardly ever buy something like this buy hey it's cool, it's limited, and it was 4 grand cheaper than a 6S.
Now if I could only afford to eat lunch to :)
I bought this car even though I couldn't use my Ford Partner discount. It's that damn good.

L8ter... Zoom Zoom is right
