thinking of buying new ms3 turbo question...

so in about 2 weeks when i move out to AZ im thinking about picking up a new MS3... now i've been reading up about it and my friend has a MS6 so i know the issue about the smoking turbo.. first i was wondering if the 08 models have had this problem fixed? if not is there any way to get it fixed or buy different seals? and why do the seals go so fast to begin with... i used to own a 2005 gti 1.8t and swaped the ko3 that it came with, with a borg warner ko4... never had a smoking problem.. is there really any true difference between the borg and the hitachi k04's? im only asking due to not wanting to be annoyed by the smoke and the smell and wanting to modify the MS3 without worry...

Everything on here suggest it was a bad batch of seals that went out, and nothing more. I have a 2008, 6k miles, and no smoking yet.

So far no 2008s...and not all 2007 do it either...
From the info and research I've done, Hitachi-Warner had a bad batch of turbos... We still don't know how many of the MS3 got affect and what VIN# range it is...
 
ok is there any big difference between the borg ko4 and hitachi ko4 besides how it mounts up.. and if i was to do all the bolt ons for the ms3 like tbe,cai,top mount, bov/dv and any other power mods what problems would i run into without tuning... i would be waiting on the pnp systems and all but anything that would start to really be a big deal... i looked up about the boost cut issue but dont really understand it too much...
