Thinking about getting 2012 Mazda5 GT for main car/ family car / daily driver

90210, what's your take on the Liquid Silver since you have it on your Miata?

I have a rule of only owning red or yellow cars. Bought the LS Miata, because got a smoking deal (9K off MSRP). THat said, right when the ND comes out, I am going to dump it.

The color doesn't inspire me. In a sea of gray, it just blends in.

IMHO

Sweet ride, wow, I like every color. Mine's Clear Water Blue Mica. They are awesome aren't they. Too be honest, I like the fact that the fit and finish rivals if not better than Honda. I know that's subjective but I really do think that's the case. I love the sliding door too, and my kids are taking the likings to my M5 GT over the CX-9 GT I just got. So this Christmas, I will be adding the headrest DVD player on the middle row, so the kids can watch two different movies at the same time. Then the kids will beg my wife to drive the M5 and I will get to commute on the CX-9 yay!!

Certainly is subjective. I am on my 7th Mazda, and fit and finish on none even come close to Honda, then again Mazdas are so much cheaper.

Cant wait to see the DVD thing.

I can talk a bit about Accord Coupe vs Mazda 5...

I drive a 2008 Accord 5MT (San Marino Red), my wife, a 2012 5 GT 6MT (Metropolitan Grey Metallic) (Yes, it's available... in Canada).

Performance-wise, the 5 is no stoplight dragster, but once it gets going, it's comfortable up to way extra-legal speeds.

The Accord is surprisingly roomy for a Coupe but when it comes to fitting child seats, the sliding doors of the 5 make it "no-contest".

The 5 is a much smoother vehicle, the Accord feels more nervous, more "sporty" if you want.

Both are awesome vehicles, each in its own way (Especially with Manual trannies)

I just traded in my 2007 Odyssey Touring with Navi and DVD. I was very disappointed with fit and finish with the Odyssey when we first picked it up. Then attempt for the dealer trying to fix it all but failed. We were unhappy for about last 4-5 years. Then there were tranny software issue that I've been barking at (Honda) for two years before they sent out a recall. List goes on and on. Customer service in California is horrible to say the list. They just read off script to you. When I tried to get an updated map for the Navi because I bought the car in August of 2007 and the map was from 2005, they said I had to pay for it. The days of "Honda... we make it simple" are long gone and they have lots of problems just like any other car company. But in the end, sad to tell you that I may never buy Honda vehicle again, sort of boycotting them for not taking care of simple requests from customer that purchased a over $42K vehicle.

I guess customer service quality is down for all brands these days. Making car doesn't seem to be as profitable as it was. I read that Saab being bought out for $140 millions, while a gimmicky software company like Groupon turned down a $6 billions offer. More than 40 times the price of a good car maker.
Regarding the Odyssey's fit and finish, I wasn't impressed with mine either. The glove box was clearly misaligned, and the gray plastic on the interior looks very cheap. I hated the seats in my 07 EX - the lumbar thing is just too much, pushing against my lower back all the time. This Mazda5 is way more comfortable.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. My wife never complained about it. Mine, the LCD panel for overhead DVD kept popping off too, clearly a bad Q/A. Also the front bumper's gap showed if as it was hit and rear clearly a bad fit and finish.

Well, I wanted to switch car yesterday but the salesman never called me back. I will try again today and if it does not work out, then I'll just keep driving the M5GT. I'm still pretty happy with it though. I like both cars in their own way. I will wait about 3 years and definitely planning on getting a Subaru WRX or the STI -- something with AWD and a stick, but not an Audi or VW however. That brand is clearly off of my shopping list.

Well, we're getting a ton of snow today. Drove the kids down to Princeton NJ area to reminisce the times when we used to live down there. We stopped over at the Pennsylvania Dutch Market for some home cooked foods. Fried chicken is so good there, I always miss it. But the best fried chicken I had was at a truck stop in Missouri.

Okay, dealer called but the money I'd have to pony up is just so ridiculous so I am passing up the idea of going Speed3 this time around. I might just hold off and either get a Speed3 or a Subaru WRX or just Impreza. With today's snow reminding me that an AWD equipped vehicle is king! What's funny is I don't ever recall getting this much snow, at least not until December or February. Leaves haven't all fallen yet so when snow got on them, there were lots of downed trees, plus lots of short power interruptions.

Driving back from a little outing, I noticed that the ground clearance of the M5GT is definitely a plus -- and it does well in snow, maybe because the tires are new. I will definitely put on the winter set for this car.

Finally, when I got home, I took out the wife's CX9 for test spin. We have a very steep hill around our neighborhood with a few switchbacks. I couldn't believe how poised the CX9 was in the snow / slush going up hill. On turns though, it does weave a bit but recovery is a lot shorter. Engine braking is good too going down hill as all 4 wheels slows down. The magic of AWD!
LOL you and I have a lot in common then - every time I looked at the bumper gap I wondered if it got hit in the parking lot :D
