Are they ok for permanent mounting?

Sure, but based on how they attach, by hooking on to edge of roof above doors, I wouldn't use them to carry anything substantial.

Are there better that look the same? I like the straight, goes beyond the clamp and then ends sticking out look.

Not that I'm aware of but I haven't researched it very much. I went with OEM rails and crossbars to carry a Thule gear box.

I think the OEM rack is 165 lbs.

Note that capacity is spec'd for a dynamic load. Aerodynamics of the cargo you put on the rack could increase the dynamic load above the actual static weight of the cargo. So to be safe you would not want to max out the capacity of whatever rack you are using.

Those are just the roof rails, no crossbars. Not sure how a roof basket would attach to just the rails.

I'm learning about this. I asked the seller about a weight limit.
I thought if the basket were wide enough, I could strap it to the rails.
