thepope540's KLDE swap / build thread

No problem, glad to see everything is working out good for you. I have owned two V6 Probes with the DE version of that motor and LOVE the sound that V6 makes. Have you seen the video on youtube of the turbo ZE MX6 running a Megasquirt, using launch control and flat-shift?

Makes me smile...

Priorities man. I really want a toy that can sit in the winter, be stripped for lightness, convertible / targa / giant sunroof, and be totally impractical. I also need an utterly dependable 4 door with AC, preferably AWD, and the ability to tow a utility trailer and small boat. The MSP doesn't fit either of these so its for sale. I don't really want to see it go, but it just doesn't align well with my current needs. If it doesn't sell I'll keep it. I fully believe it will be an absolute beast :) We shall see...

that sucks
i would buy it in a heartbeat if i had the money but unfortunatley i dont and i am still on my project
good luck with sale

all that work just to get rid of it? well that sucks

I don't look at it that way. Its been a learning experience and while I've gotten sick of it at times, I've enjoyed it. Selling it isn't a loss for me. It would be an opportunity to play with something new / different and also have something to drive. My truck is a great beater - reliable and cheap, but it sucks for DD duties. My MSP is an awesome toy, but my experience is that its not a DD either. I've had around 20 vehicles in the last 11 years. I enjoy 'em when I have them, but don't sweat it when its time for them to go. There are too many cars I haven't had yet to miss the ones I have.

If it sells (which it may not), I'll also sell my truck and replace the pair with a different pair. I'm leaning toward a turbo II, miata, mr2, fiero, 944, 914, fiat x1/9, or someone's locost project for the toy. I don't really know what I want for a DD. Part of me would like to have another Audi, but I would hate to not have something that can do truck duty. That points me toward an SUV or Quad Cab pickup. Ideally I'd get a Baja Turbo but they're too expensive. It'll just depend on what's available when / if my car sells.

heres the plan you get a miata and throw the V6 in that

+2 I've seriously considered it. I just don't know if thats really the direction I want to go. I'd love a turbo II and there's one locally for $1000. I just can't talk my wife into 4 cars (5 if you count my parts mx6).

DO NOT throw a V6 in the Miata. The stock Miata blocks are VERY strong and can take a whole lot of forced induction. There are many people out there running 300+hp on stock blocks. There is a ton of aftermarket support for both Turbo and Supercharging.

not many running over 300 on stock motors. very few actually. i know many many turbo miatae, and MAYBE there are 4. and i can only pull one off the top of my head.

though i do agree about not swapping a fwd v6 into a miata. the motors are great, from a stock 1.6 motor you'll get about 230-240whp max. and a stock 1.8 motor 265-280whp max

I know, but thats not the point. I've had 2 miatas over the years. a '94 R model built to the letter of the CSP rule book and a '90 with an m45 supercharger@10 psi w/ meth injection. Both were fun in different ways with very different manners. Both had extensive suspension work and were loads of fun. My cousin has a '92 with a 1.8 swap and a GT25 @ 15 psi. I'm very familiar with the BP, I just don't particularly like it. Its a great engine, capable, smooth, strong, and cheap - I just don't feel like it has any soul. A KL or 13B in a miata makes a lot of sense to me, not because it makes sense, but because its a little different, a little off, and has a little more character.

Its not faster than a boosted BP, but its a whole lot sexier

The FS is even more soulless than the BP. About every motor out there has been put in a miata. Everything from motorcycle 4 cylinders up to jag v12s. I'd keep it in the mazda family and go KL or 13B.
