Aren't the WRC rules stating something like displacement is limited to 2.0? If so, this blows that, but who cares! It will BLOW AWAY the EVO 8. 300 HP! 300 ft/lbs! Shiat! (shocked)

that's been the only beef i've seen people have with the car so far. the limit is 2.0. oh that and someone wanted a sunroof.

not sure why they went 2.5L? emissions?

I've been following this launch very closely. Couple of things. These are the announced specs from Subaru. These specs are production, not prototype. However, we still don't know things like what turbo, what psi, and other details.

WRC rules. The WRC category that Suby, Puegot, Ford, Citroen, and Skoda participate in call for only 50 protoypes to be built. No problem there for USDM engine size as Prodrive builds them all for Suby. The rules for group N (I think, maybe group A) specify 2.0l limit and something like 20,000 cars to be built. There are enough regular Imprezas sold JDM for this to be a non issue. Only the STi has the 2.5l T, no regular Imprezas.

I was hpoing for the twin scoll turbo like the EVO. But maybe the larger engine will help. Certainly 300 ftlbs at 400 rpm is nice. Pricing will not be confirmed until May. SOA rep said low 30s. I hope 32 or less but it may be up to 34. They have also not released the option list. The big item is DCCD. In Japan that option is around equiv. 2-3k more is $USD. Most people on iclub suspect 30k base and up to 35k for all the bells and whistles. If you want to get more info there is a crap load of it here

It sure looks awesome. I am on the list at a good high volume dealer. We shall see what happens this summer.

That sounds about right to me. That s*** ain't gonna be cheap.

as prost said, the turbo 2.5L is only for the USDM STi. all other STis are getting a turbo 2.0L, as are all other WRX trim levels. according to SOA, the 2.5L will provide much more low-end torque than the 2.0L (as anyone who has driven a 2.5RS and WRX back to back will attest). supposedly, it also might have to do with the lower boost required w/ larger displacement to acheive similar power numbers, and our lower-octane gas. definitely check out that link. i spend a lot of time on nasioc, and there are a lot of knowledgeable ppl and a ton of info available there.

besides, the WRX STi is NOT what races in the WRC. that's the Impreza WRC (IIRC). :)

hiyaa!!!!!!

does anyone know if the sti will be a limited edition, or if subaru will make it a regular produced car like the wrx?

Regular production but limited to 4000 to 5000 units per year is what they have stated. They expect to deliver 300 to 400 per month startnig in June. With 600 dealerships itis clear this one will be hard to get until the demand dies down.
