2007 Speed3
My turbo crapped out on me. After defending my Ms3 telling my family I made the right choice that it is a quality car then this s*** happens. A 2007 CB MS3 Sport Build date is Jan 2007. I'm pissed. I mean WTF. I was on the on ramp about to enter Hwy 29 south towards Napa as soon as I started to accelerate I heard click click click click then complete loss of power in WOT I let off the gas ASAP then thats when my wife looked behind and said "where's all that smoke coming from?" The car had no pull what so ever. I knew it was the snail. Good news is my local Mazda dealer will put in a new turbo under warranty. Service rep said they already replaced 4 turbos on ms3's . Bad news is I wont keep the car when I get it back. May be it's just the anger talking right now. I paid $22,845 up front for a crappy product. I mean come on if your spending that kind of money wouldn't you expect it to last? I have two cars lined up to replace it. An 05 STi with 15k miles lease return. I also have an 08 Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart that my wife wants on the list.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Did you have any mods on your ms3? How many miles are on it? Mine was built in Nov. of 06 and I haven't had any turbo issues what so ever. You should be happy their replacing it under warranty...brand new turbo for free. I sure wouldn't be complaining about that...

VermZ06, My car had 24,749. Completely stock. I've only had it for 10 months. If your turbo all of a sudden gave out on you it certainly wont make you happy will it? Of course your going to be angry.

Grow the **** up s*** happens dude. Had 3k on my speed and had bad seals already. Seriously great you paid 22k for your car thats not a ton of money (not cheap either) but its not like you paid 80k and omg your engine blew and even though they are replacing it without a hassle your just gonna say **** it what a bad piece of car... sorry its sunday and i cuss lots on sundays

That really sucks.....but honestly I've read similar stories on mitsu and subaru forums I'm on. Though 22K isn't cheap, it's certainly not "high end" when it comes to cars. You've got to get perspective and realize what level of car you're buying. This isn't a Porsche. It's completely understandable that you're angry, I'd be pissed too. The fact of the matter is though, it's a car, s*** happens. If the dealer's replacing it without giving you crap I don't see what the problem is. If you think you're going to pick up an '05 STI lease return with 15K miles on it and not have problems you've got another thing coming. If I was giving up my STI I'd sure as hell put it through it's paces before I handed over the keys and write it off as the next guy's problem. Good luck man and I hope all goes well.

Do you know what kind of stress a turbo charger goes through! I have had turbo cars all my life and have never had a failure. I had a supra, RX7, twin turbo mustang, eclipse GST and a talon AWD. Not one time have I had a turbo failure! I was waiting for it to happen but it never did. s*** happens, things break and parts make it past Quality Control. If car manufacturers made perfect cars they would be so expensive no one could buy them. Dealerships would have to markup the car prices to stay afloat! Dealerships make most their income form service repairs and selling used cars.

that really sucks man, im sorry to hear that. i dont think you should jump ship just yet though, i mean they did replace it under warranty, just think about how you're going to hear a brand new spooling, and it didnt cost you a thing. did you follow proper break in procedure? did you let the car cool down for 2-3 minutes before shut down? 25,000 miles in 10 months?!?!

I bought a brand new GMC Envoy in January of 2006, and about 5 months and 12k miles later, it need a complete tranny rebuild. Got it done under warranty, and all is good. Seriously, this kind of thing happens on every make and model of car. Not the end of the world. Get it fixed and move on. Not saying you shouldn't be pissed, but selling the car is a bit extreme.

this type of thing is why there is a warranty. nothing is perfect, no matter how well-engineered. things fail, things break, things die.

such is life.

i'd get over it, honestly. enjoy the new turbo and enjoy the car.

ahh, italian exotics are infamous for crazy stuff. first couple years of f355 had issues with valve guides failing. all of them had issues with exhaust manifolds cracking, and they were like 2k each from Ansa, plus the labor.

my friend's f360 has like 13k on it now, and has had countless issues. f1 pump died, which controls the shifting. engine mounts broke. the check engine light is on continuously. it popped it's worm clamps on the intakes while he was driving and cause the car to die. the car locked itself one time when it was idling and could not be opened.

the thing is, the higher the performance, the more risk you run for stuff failing. esp when you are pushing the envelope with small displacement stuff, like ferraris (their engines are comparitevely small) or mazdas.

i'll take ur "crappy product" xD how's about u give it to me and i'll be glad to take it off ur hands hehe. anyways all cars have their share of problems...heck even our stupid 2000 4runner has problems that cant even be diagnosed...<-thats a toyota too...ur lucky the stupid dealer didnt take it as a abuse from the WOT.

i'm sure once u look past it, u'll realize u got a one of a kind car. things happen

Kind of off topic but me and another dude with a S2000 switched cars today for a little while and the owner for the 07 S2000 was extremely impressed with the speed3. I know they're totally different cars but sometimes you need to put things in prospective. The car kicks major ass and for 23-25k it’s ridiculous. Call me crazy but I actually like my shifter better than the S2000 now that I have the TWM SS / Bushings. However, S2000 with SS probably no contest...lol

S2000 sure is a fun car though.. Wish I could have both :(

from another bay area guy, sorry for the turbo dying. sucks. i would be pissed too. i have seen 4 STI's with blown turbo at track events. personally, i like NA cars for the track. just me, tho.

on the street, my MS3 gets me to and fro with a very high "smile quotient".

oh, and i forgot to add. i just took my '07 Si in for the third gear fix that honda finally made public.

like i said, things break, especially as you push the performance envelope. also, you can't depend on everything to perfect exactly as designed. even honda messes up haha...

Sorry to hear about your turbo and glad to hear your warranty will cover it.

Do you do your own oil changes or do you take it to a shop? I'm asking this because I have heard numerous horror stories about service centers or shops not adding enough oil leading to catastrophic engine failure.

my friend bought a 2001 S4 brand new and the turbos went out on that in 10k miles. s*** happens, as long as they cover it under warranty i wouldnt be too pissed.

+1... 3 days after I bought my 2004 Mazda3 (first Mazda I ever bought), the transmission died... although after that I kept it for 3 years & never had a single problem out of it... I didn't jump ship and sell it as soon as I got it back, and I'm happy I didn't because I wouldn't have my MS3 now :D like builthatch said, it's why warranties exist.

Dude, what an asshole response? Do you have any empathy at all? The OP even states that it is probably just the anger talking. Is it rash to sell a car for this? Sure, but it is most likely just talk. If it was YOUR car, you would be putting up the same type of post. "s*** happens" would be "s***, it happened" if it was your car. Put yourself in his place and think before posting crap like this. It's not like he even had any mods!

To the OP, don't let crap like this scare you away from your car or this forum. There are more understanding people here than not, the non-understanding just stand out the most. Good luck.

Thats a complete bummer man, I would be super anger too...but...you cant really just jump ship. Make sure you carefully consider all ur options when ur not angry...like...
A used STI: maybe it brook too and the owner is doing the same u are.
thank heavens it was under warranty huh!?!?!

Good luck with whatever you decide.
