The Pro 5 Welcome Package

that calendar thing sounds pretty cool. A little cheesy, but makes a nice momento of when you bought your car. I bought mine late at night and didn't take any pictures. Would've like at least one little momento of my first new car purchase (besides the actual car I mean!).

hey i didnt receive a "welcome packet" yet! i want some touch-up paint too! how long does it take??

STEPHANIE - did you get your car from John Hine?? I'm suppose to get a calendar too!

Yes, badboyeee,

I bought my Protege5 from John Hine on November 1!

It wasn't until I called Mazda's customer relations (about mid-March) and asked about the welcome packet and touch-up paint that I found out my address was entered wrong on Mazda's computer system--I never received a dealer survey.

I'll let you know when I receive my welcome packet.

Stephanie,

Thats cool! How long did it take you to receive your calendar? I didn't receive mine yet. How's John Hine's service at the service department? Who was your salesman? :)

oh yah, I just received my customer survey. Am I suppose to turn this in then I will receive my "Welcome Packet"?>?

Sounds like we need a t-shirt with..."I bought a p5 and all I got was a crappy Mazda Town promotional flyer."

;)

I haven't received anything from Mazda, but my dealer said that any time I needed touch up paint, just to drop in. They are so nice. :p

Actually since I bought the P5( actually I leased it), the dealer has been sending me hand signed holiday greetings cards. It's an endearing touch. Though I don't think they mean it cause I gave them grief when I was going to buy my car.

They wanted to drill holes and mount a "custom" liscence plate on my baby. I told them that if they where going to "brand" MY car that they could frig right off on the whole deal. They also wanted to do the same with a couple of other things on the car as well (dealer stickers and crap). I just showed them that I was willing to just walk away (pun intended).

Still waiting for the welcome packet...

badboyeee,

My salesman was Grayson, who has since been transfered out of sales.

Service department at Hine is OK, they did a good job when they aligned the car (under warranty). Of course they shouldn't have let it go off the lot that way in the first place!

If you have warranty work performed there, be sure to tell them not to wash the car--I had to remove the mineral deposits from water spots with clay on my Miata the one time I took it there for warranty service.

I think it took about a month to receive the calendar, maybe a little more.

Yeah, I got the package too. They sent it in a blue box right? About three weeks after I got it, they sent me another one. I haven't used it yet, but I plan on it.

Steph,

My car is misaligned too! They swapped my wheels (from chromed to regular) and maybe thats what caused it?, I dont know. I'm gonna take it in hopefully during the end of this week. I need them to fix a rattle/squeaking sound coming from the front passenger side door too. Do you have a particular service guy? My salesman introduced me to William.

hrmm that name Grayson sounds familiar. Does he have an accent? My salesman was Chris.

and yah I noticed my car feels rough rather than smooth after they wash my car. oh wells

Service at Hine, San Diego

Badboyeee,
My service guy at Hine is Kenny, I liked him. The alignment has nothing to do with swapping wheels, and it's covered under warranty. It could be a bad tire, or a bad alignment, either way Hine will fix the problem. Kenny drove mine himself to make sure my Protege5 was aligned properly (this was BEFORE I lowered the car!).

I've got my calendar on Saturday. I've got my first bill on Monday. I've got my license plates today. woo hoo

You got your plates already?! I bought mine three days before you did and didn't get them yet. I'm actually not hoping to get them soon. I like driving around with a brand new car! Putting the plates on makes me feel like it's not so new anymore.:(

do you have to have a front plate in CA? If you do, it's not gonna be fun watching them screw in the plate holder in the front, I had to watch that happen :(

Front Plate

I have 2 holes in my front bumper, where the dealer drilled for the front plate, ouch! I refuse to run a front plate, until ticketed that is.

Why is it that the front plate holder is way too big for a plate (even with a frame) and the rear holder too small for a license plate frame????

Anyone have a good solution for placement of a front plate that won't obstruct air flow to the radiator?

I have seen people use like rubber bands and tie it to the rear view mirror inside the car and i have seen people just put it on the dashboard inside the car. I think that looks TOO ghetto if you ask me. But I suppose it is a solution.

CA requires you to have a front plate, especially now with the ticket cameras all over the place. If you don't know what those are, they're cameras that take a photo of your car if you do something illegal (eg speeding), then they blow up the picture to see your plate number, then they mail you a ticket! Without a front plate, those cameras are useless. I, however, hate the front plate and will continue to drive around without it until ticketed (which has happened a couple times with my former cars.) Once I got the ticket, I just screwed the plate in, drove over to the highway patrol station to get it checked off, paid the ten bucks, then drove home and took the plate off all over again! It's a bit of a hassle, but I really don't like how the plates look on our really nice bumpers.

Yeah you have to have the license plate shown front and back here in CA. It says so on the back of the big envelope the license plates came in.

I don't want to put my license plates on yet either! It's not gonna be new anymore haha. I still havent gotten the chance to take pics of it, in a nice setting. (i have pics of it at ghetto places)

Does anyone know how long it's legal for me to have no license plates on my car? In CA?

I think it's assumed that you'll put them on once you get them. I don't know if there is an actual time limit on that. Most people I know waited months before they put theirs on, and never had any trouble with the cops. That's probably because they never got pulled over for anything. You can always go with playing dumb - "Oh, I didn't get them yet, must have gotten lost in the mail!" My boyfriend and my cousin both waited an entire year!!! At least wait a couple more months! You just got it... enjoy it like that!:D
