The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Well I think they're doing away with the front license plate law in 2017 or something.

Good for them I don't see how a dealer in ohio can legally sell a car without a bracket. I hate them as much as the next person but laws is laws. It pisses me off every time I see a car without a front plate after all the s*** Jen was given at work. I guess when you work for the state patrol you have to be a good example or some kind of s*** like that. lol

Most dealers will put the brackets on the car, unless it's something rare/high performance. Also, According to my boss, the dealer doesn't have to put it on if the customer requests. Which makes sense since a handful of our vehicles don't even come with a bracket anymore as it's already incorporated into the bumper. I also have the customer sign a document requesting the bracket be removed or left off too.

My Fiat also came undrilled. Bracket was in the back seat in a sealed bag.

I don't like front plates either but I've always ran them. Not worth the trouble getting pulled over for something so trivial.

I haven't had a front plate on the ms3 since I brought it back out. Like Jess says it give a cop something else to write a ticket for if you are speeding. I have not had any issues but I don't speed, if I am getting pulled over it doesn't matter what I have, my car is going away and so is my license.

Picked up this beauty today:

Everything is good, except the morons in Service put on a front license plate despite being told specifically not to by the salesman. He's going to check with them on Tuesday to see about body colored plugs. Just got through doing some setup stuff (Bluetooth, Homelink), still lots to go but damn does this thing have a lot of electronic stuff on it.
Congrats on the new ride
How was everyone's long weekend? Glad everyone made it safely home from Lime Rock.
Mine was good, did some house and yard work and had kabobs on the grill. Pretty tasty. Had steak and scallops last night at the in-laws. Was able to get the garage reorganized and Kennedy discovered the Camaro for the first time. She asked to sit in it and "drive it" pretty much all weekend.
Yeah, I had a similar thing on my P5 but it was $35 new. $72 is a bit much for vanity. I'm just getting old and cranky, never mind me.
I'm old and cranky with you. I was think $40 max and not a fan of the JNA cut out. If one of the 6's from the Sumlin stable comes to Natefest I'll check it out though.

+1

Thought about posting up the OEM 6 wheels to see if I can get rid of them for a decent price but had the thought of keeping them for a winter set for the Escape and putting low rolling resistance tires on the stockers for summer. Only unknowns are if the hub bores are the same and if the tpms will work. Your guy's thoughts?

From what I just found by a quick search, seems both wheels are 67.1mm bore. On your own for the TPMS... I just deal with not having it on a set of winter wheels.

Just found it too, lol.

Nice pickup. The CX5 looks great every time I see one, but the interior room is atrocious for such a large vehicle, especially compared to the cheaper Mazda5, which also comes in 5 speed.

For us, the interior space is quite enough. We were going to get an auto in any case, and the Mazda5 looks too much like a minivan to suit my wife.

Congrats Chief!!!! Looks good and sux that the morons there drilled thru the bumper. I'd demand a new cover! (evil) Sad to see that the MS6 went though. Hopefully she will go to a good home.

Thanks Jeff. I considered asking for a new cover, but since they couldn't follow a simple instruction what might they screw up swapping that out? I included a list of all the maintenance I did on the Speed so hopefully whoever gets it will know it was taken care of and follow suit.

Congrats on the new ride

Thanks.

The more I drive it, the better it is. Handling improved quite a bit since I found they hadn't set the tire pressures (per their pre-delivery list) and I dropped them to the recommended 36 psi from 40-41 psi.

To my Ohio friends and those I know from other parts.... I picked up a 2014 Mazda3 S Touring Hatchback today. I have to thank Marlon for everything as he answered all my questions and told me if I got a good deal or not....

I sold cars before and I always do my homework!

As far as the diverter is concerned, production and materials have increased along with food, gas, etc. If you like the piece, ask for it without the JNA on it. There must be some validity to the functionality of it, as I have seen a number of race teams cover this area in some form or another.

And this is why you are the man. I do my homework too and I am a numbers guy, but I enjoy having someone in the know to back me up. Again, I can't thank you enough Marlon for all you do for us in the Mazda community.

They'll work. They're both 5x114.3 and have the same hub bores. TPMS should work but I don't run any in my winter set.

I always ran front plates in VA. Believe it or not they were even more strict than OH about that. Ran 'em in OH until the recent round of cars. We specifically requested the VW dealership to not drill holes into the front of our Jetta. It still amazes me there's no bracket; the plate is literally just screwed to the bumper cover. Like Jess the first thing I did to my 2 was swap the delete plate on once I got home. Told the Ford dealership to do the same thing with the Flex as we did with the VW but they ignored me. Still enrages me today to think I purchased a near $50K vehicle and they outright ignored my request. I don't think Police down here care because we get some many IN and KY cars, which don't require front plates.

Down here in the south we don't have front plates, but sometimes dealers put their tramp stamps on as front plates. When I bought my MS6 back in 2006, they didn't do anything to the front. I was surprised and asked why (dumb question in hindsight) and I was told that they didn't want to ruin a beautiful car.

Thinking about doing the unthinkable. Since I'm severely short on time these days and getting sick of having made little/no progress on the RX7 in three years I'm considering outsourcing some of the work to a shop(s). I don't have much familiarity with local shops but I know some of you guys have dealt with Jay Racing in Dayton, which isn't too far. Any of you guys use them for custom/one-off parts? I'm thinking about getting them to re-do my exhaust (still not happy with the crush-bends), perhaps welding the roll bar in, and even possibly help me with the radiator/oil cooler ducting.

I'm in a slightly better mood today. I forgot the FC's starter had a lifetime warranty, which was nice to not pay a thing. I also got the new relay I need to solder into the wiper switch to get my intermittent wipers back.

Jon, a few of the OG Protege guys have used Jay Racing for parts and service and are pretty happy with them. Nate is a good guy and really knows his s***. I've only ordered thermal spacers from them but they looked pretty good.
