The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Do you have kids, chiefmg? I don't see why anyone would want to swap an MS6 for a CX5... (scratch) But I'm biased... :)

My wife and I have 11 between us, only two still at home. This would be our long-distance vehicle, plus she is concerned because all our cars are manual and if something happens where she can't shift, then she has to rely on others to drive her around (that happened recently). Not getting rid of any of our other vehicles, and I can't justify so many cars (just doing oil changes when I get home absorbs some time, let alone wash/wax and upgrade installation). Believe me, I don't really want to get rid of it but I do have enough other fun cars to soften the blow.

Hard to fault that logic! Like you said, there are still plenty of other fun cars under your avatar. :) Plus, the CX-5s are really nice.

I didn't realize how hard changing the suspension on the 6 was. The MSP was so simple, the 6 everyone suggests dropping the rear sub-frame (I can only find how-to's on the MS6)

Did you go to 6Crew?

Did you go to 6Crew?

Yep, have a couple tabs open from their how to section and a couple from 6 club I haven't read thru yet.

Wishbone style suspension seems more complex the the McPhearson style

Why do you think I backed out of coming down to C-bus for lunch, sucka? haha

I'm not sure if the rear suspension on the wagon is the same as the MS6 or not. Ryan Burkert says he's got the rear suspension install down to a science though, maybe hit him up for tips and tricks.

What are you doing with the wagon's suspension anyway?

Research. Since it's on original shocks & struts it's safe to assume at some point it will need replaced.

Rear suspension between the 2 seem the same, just no rear diff to mess with.

I've done it a few times. You don't have to completely drop the rear subframe, just loosen the two large (22mm iirc) nuts and get a touch of play. The rears really aren't that bad. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I just found myself from 2010:

The rear shocks are easy. Drop the rear trailing arm so the spring arm is no longer attached to the spindle. Then pull the bottom bolt from the shock. Next drop one side of the rear sub-frame, (not required but makes life 150% easier). There are three bolts holding the upper shock bracket in. Remove these and the shock with bracket can come out. Notice the angle it is attached at. Swap bracket to new shock and reinstall. Repeat on other side.

First timers - 45 minutes a side
Experienced - 25 minutes a side

I really really recommend lowering the sub-frame in the rear.

I've still got perfectly good MS6 shocks and springs if you're interested, Nate. ;)

The shocks were replaced recently before Jake bought it. I've got the receipts at home I can double check the mileage with.

MS6 shocks and springs are by far the best improvement for the least amount of money. I would recommend going that way.
