The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

everything is stock, rotors, lines, pads, bleeder valve. Replacing everything to troubleshoot might be a good option, don't want to go through all that just yet though. Thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind.

I sent both an email, Keith already responded saying it's air in the lines and that I need to keep bleeding them, he's not sure about the power bleeder but it might be the ABS unit not letting the fluid go though.

I'm thinking about installing speed bleeders and keep trying: bleed, drive, trigger ABS, bleed, repeat. I'd rather not pay the stealership, maybe use that for new pads instead.

Replacing everything is one way to troubleshoot, but definitely not cheap. Are you planning on upgrading everything eventually? Your speed bleeder technique might be a good place to start though.

While we're on the topic of brakes...when I installed my coilovers, Evan #1 and I tried to install my Corksport SS brake lines. Well, we couldn't even get those damn fitting nuts off. They were stuck on there and I believe Evan even hit it with PB blaster. We ended up calling it quits so we didn't round the damn nuts. I'm not sure if it was just my eyes, but it actually looked like the flare wrench was messed up (could have been like that before). It looked as if it was stretched out, so the two sides were not perfectly parallel. Idk, I think I'll go buy a set of flare wrenches and try it again.

Does anyone have any suggestions or techniques? I think I remember reading someone used a butane torch to gently heat the area around the nut? Sounds like it could work, but I don't want to just do it and mess s*** up LOL! Thanks!

Northern cars driven in the salt and snow make brake lines an absolute b****. That's the primary reason I paid someone to fix the Honda's brakes. Hindsight, if you felt uncomfortable about that flare wrench, you could have tried mine. I have a set of them. Regardless... based on my experience with trying to change brake lines... you probably would have rounded out that nut anyway.

Ya you're probably right, I most likely would have rounded it anyway lol. Hopefully the climate shifts soon and we never have winter again HAHA

Yep it was super fun. I'm definitely doing the Ohio event next year so let me know if you guys want to get a team together.
I'm down for a little mud :)

I think I need to bleed my brakes over again. I have plenty of pad left on the Porterfield pads that I bought in the middle of last year, but they just feel a little mushy at first. Probably just need a good leeding. I've been using Valvoline Synthetic DOT4. Is there are suggestions for anything better?

I cleaned the MSP inside and out today in the hurricane winds. Just need to detail the engine bay and take some pics and send them off to Mishimoto and maybe post a couple on here. She looks amazing minus the small cancer spot and paint falling of randomly. Can't complain for a salvaged car with a cheap 5 year old paint job. I would still like to meet the guy who painted it and wring his neck out for such a wonderful paint job :(

HA! New location for Superfly Sunday's has been announced, and it's less than 2 miles from my house!

Not saying it's going to be my weekly hangout, due to all the typical douche-bagery, but it's still nice to know it's right there. lol

I used a regular set of metric wrenches on my RX-7 (shrug). It is a "southern" car though.

My Miata needed vice grips, but it was a "northern" car, though. Bleeding the brakes on that made a very noticeable difference. A lot of rust and some air came out of the lines. It had new lines, so I guess they forgot to bleed them?

You might as well just get ss lines then and bleed the whole system over.

I am going to re-bleed my system too. Just to see if it changes the pedal feel. Just for sluts and jiggles.

All of the lines?

sigh... I dunno, sometimes I think it would be worth it to take it to the stealership so they can use their "special machine" (they have one for everything) to bleed them and make sure there is no air trapped in the ABS unit, this would also save me the trouble of bleed, drive, trigger ABS, repeat. Don't really need SS lines since I'm not pushing the car that much, and even when it goes to the track being a momentum car you're not supposed to use the brakes that much so like you've said before, they might not be worth it

Some of you already know but I have decided to take the MSP back to stock (mostly). I've thought about it a lot recently and I don't know if it's the p5's auto transmission sucking my soul out of my body or practical common sense and getting wiser and more mature but having a car for DD'ing and one that is always a work in progress isn't the best thing for me at this time. I have yet to attend a track day or auto-x the MSP and I don't see a lot of that in the near future so really what's the point of having a car the rest of the family can't ride in. I can't take it to meets if they're going, we don't have that kind of gas money. Add on the fact that it's not the best platform, FWD and there's truth behind Phen's reason to hate the FS-DE. Plus I’m kind of over modding cars and would rather spend time with Kennedy than wrenching. Any extra time I have right now is going towards finishing my degree.

Things that will stay because I don’t have the stock parts are the springs, FMIC and Radiator. Plus I hate the heat soak with the stock SMIC. Some things are already spoken for but if anybody wants anything let me know. I’m going to start putting together a sale thread soon. I do need to find an intake mani.

And don’t worry I’m not selling her or trading her in yet. That will have to wait till we have a house and the Escape is paid or close to paid off. I hate having to make payments so having a mortgage and a car loan is more than enough, adding another might make me go crazy. The p5 will be sold once the MSP is working properly. A co-worker has already called dibs so that might work out nicely.

how hard would it be to just remove the ABS unit?

I've been using Valvoline Synthetic DOT4. Is there are suggestions for anything better?

I use Wilwood EXP 600 Plus super high temp racing brake fluid. You can get it from Summit Racing for about $19. I haven't had a lot of track time to test it out yet, but when I went to Beaverun last year it held up pretty damn good.

I originally was looking for the Wilwood EXP 570, but I either totally missed it or they didn't have any on the shelf. So I went with the 600 lol.

I've used that Valvoline Synthetic stuff in my Miata for track days before. As long as it is fairly fresh it never gave me any problems even with R-Comps. I would change it after every 2nd track weekend. Now I use ATE Super Blue or Typ 200 and change it every year :)

it wouldn't be that hard, but I don't want to mess that much with the car.

they do have it on the shelf, even though I know where it is I always manage to not find it every time I go back... lol

I use the willwood 570, had it on the 3 as well, didn't have any issues at mid ohio last year. No idea how hot the brakes got but I was braking pretty hard at the end of the back straight
