The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Yeah, I bet. I considered taking it to Jeep Skool near where I live, but all of those guys brag about what they broke, like the slammed guys, lol.

Or you can break s*** while racing like me. The good, the bad, and the ugly!

We had a team challenge today for SCCA. I never run my fastets pass first. I heard a clink on the second pass about half way through and clunks every pass after. Went from 58.6 to 59-60.5 every run after that and noticed the car didn't turn like ussual. Looked underneath the car after my heat and shook my head once again. I've broken 4 of these bastards and and 4 front endlinks and have had enough of the clamp crap so I'm going to modify these bad boys to fit the AWR bar and no more braking. Followed by some "How do you like me now!" Did I mention I race event #6 tomorrow morning. Gotta get to it.

no posts from today...you guys must only post from work :D

Exactly! The weekend is fun time. Aka no computer time :D

But alas it's a rainy day so there isn't anything else going on.

Does anyone know what brand of hidden hitch works with the Mazdaspeed3?

favorite pic of yesterday at the Glen ~ we drove up for the day for the Rolex race

I wanted to do some "light duty" off roading because it looked fun, but after going to Jeep Skool with some friends in their Colorado's, there was NO FREAKING WAY I was subjecting my truck to that kind of abuse! Their trucks came out of that place scratched up to high heaven, s*** loosened up and started rattling like it was going to fall off on the way home, all kinds of WTF.

This is the most off roading my truck saw, and I wished I hadn't done this much. It was in Latrobe, PA and knocked my alignment off something fierce and I had to drive 3 hrs home like that.

I love this truck. It's pretty good.

Damn...that looks like so much fun!! Never road raced before, but I could see myself getting into it at some point in time. Not in the pfizzle though, I'd be too worried about blowing it up. lol

What kind of speeds can you get up to on average?

My car gets to around 125-130 on the back straight at MidOhio (I don't have a speedometer anymore and don't have my gearing chart handy to be more accurate than that), the corner speeds range from 60 to 90 there. It all depends on the car: Miatas top out around 115 and Corvettes are around 180.

Rolling out then! I always thought it'd be like, gumming up the works, with a stock or otherwise slower car out there, like my p5. lol It's probably like drag racing though, so what if you're out there with a 16 second car, at least you're having fun!

Though I guess if you're just out there running a lap by yourself or spaced out, it wouldn't matter. I have NO clue how any of these events work that all you guys just get home from every weekend. lol

Don't worry about getting in the way. When you start out you will be in the beginner group with an instructor in the car teaching you and trust me that everyone will be slow regardless of the car they are in. You're actually better off in a low power car because you won't be running up on people on the straights as quickly and you will have more time learning the line rather than waiting to get around someone. Of course if you get into a higher group and then are really slow it can be frustrating. This guy was so slow I waited for a straight to pass because I didn't trust that he would see me in a corner. http://www.breesmotorsports.com/files/HowGoodLapsGetRuined.wmv

Bill, Marlon and DaveB have Driver Mods. Josh, you should do a HyperDrive next time. It's $60 for 20mins on the track with an instructor WOT and TONS of fun. It will get you hooked. My P5 is slow but we get spaced out enough in a 20min session you don't hold anyone up too badly, and you can let them safely pass you. My first Hyperdrive there were 6 legit race cars behind me and I help them up. I felt like SUCH a newb...

The first couple times that you go they will put you in the lowest group with the other very new people so it won't be that big of a deal. It is such a sensory overload at first that you won't have time to hold people up.

Holding people up isn't as much about the car as it is about the driver. I go to PCA events with my stock Miata and run in one of the advanced run groups but don't get in people's way. As long as you get people by safely and quickly everything works out and everyone stays happy. Besides they slow me up more than I slow them up :D

That guy was running in TT?

I have a bunch of videos where other drivers have completely screwed me going into 11 by over braking when I was setting them up to get by. Then my momentum is gone, they drive away, and the whole process gets repeated.

BTW, love your car. What happened to that big splitter that is in a few of the pictures on your website? How are those Rota Slipstreams holding up to track abuse?

Yeah, there were 2 or three drivers that really shouldn't be in the TT group but somehow they are. Most of them are very good though and we grid by lap time so it works out pretty well. We had enough cars this month to run two TT groups so the higher classes were separated from the lower. They had to love having more than 1 or 2 laps before running through the field. A Vette running a 1:28 and a Focus running 1:58s meet pretty quickly especially when you have 50 cars in line at the out lap.

The splitter and wing were removed so I could run lighter. I am running at 2625 race weight (with me in the car) instead of the 2760 I had to run with the aero. The lighter weight should be faster now that I added the proportioning valve to my brakes, but I won't know for sure until I get my new tires on for Nationals next month. I'll have 2 sets of A6's to use for the weekend instead of the 20 heat cycle R6s I started this weekend with.

The Rotas are great. I'll be getting another set if I can find the right size in the next couple weeks.
