The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

This is a huge topic now at Akron U's College of Education. The mother was even a student at UAkron studying to become a teacher....she worked in the inner city schools as an aide and knew she wanted better for her kids. It's sad really.

But at the same time, your school gets funding for every kid who lives in the district. In this case, the kids lived in Akron but went to Copley-Fairlawn (or wherever). So Copley-Fairlawn is not receiving any funds for that student, while Akron is getting more money for no one. That is not fair, and creates economic situations like Ohio's education is in today. Rules are made for one reason: to be followed--she didn't follow the rules and now she must accept the consequences. Although I agree they are quite harsh...

If she is convicted she won't be able to teach, in turn she goes on welfare and public assistance and we now have to take care of her and her kids! What they should do, is have her work as a volunteer at the Copley/Fairlawn Schools to repay whatever money she owes the district. Ohio's education has been screwed for year, ever since they ruled the way the public schools were funded as unconstititional in the late 90's. Does the pinishement meet the crime? Certainly not, a mother looking for the welfare of her children in order for them to have better opportunities in life..a rare thing in this day and age. I guess it's like Jean ValJan in Les Miserables, going to prison for a loaf of bread! Overkill.....

This is the truth...It certainly would be a punishment which benefits both her, the school, and her children. The worst part is she will not be allowed to get her teaching license, so all her tuition and everything is a waste! But man, Akron public isn't THAT bad...

i thought she claimed the kids lived with their grandfather who did in fact live in that school district, so your idea of the certain schools getting proper funding doesnt work...

from what i took from it she's getting in trouble for saying they live with their grandfather so they could go to a better school when they actually still lived with her...

I'm not sure how the school's determine the amount of students for funding, but she forged the document saying the kids lived in the Copley/Fairlawn district. Does the state determine the number of kid by the number the school reports, or does it go by the city's population of kids?

she just said the kids lived with their grandfather who from what i read did live in the Copley/Fairlawn district.

while she did break the law, i think its bogus how harshly they are trying to come down on her...

me personally id want to give her a pat on the back for trying to put her children in a better position to succeed, but the severity of what her punishment in NO way fits the crime IMO

x2....as a parent I can understand why she did it and from what I read the judge said himself that he was going to make an example out of 'her'. Considering she is a working single mom who herself is trying to finish her education to make a better life should account for something in the court's eye. Also, apparently this is a problem in this area but she is being singled out for some reason....at least this is what I gathered from watching The Talk with Tam last night.

they do it in columbus too, even more so within the city district, although it's more for sports reasons not education reasons

Just scheduled an interveiw with Home Depot for next monday, nothing exciting but it's better than nothing.

If anyone wants some 16" steelies you can have them. They've been in my garage for a year just taking up space. I believe they are from a Mitsu that one of Phens friends was running on his MSP with winter tires. I bought them and swapped the winter tires onto my OEM 16's last year.

So yeah, free steelies for joo.

edit- and if anyone wants my dads old Rover wheels/tires let me know. Like new Blizzaks on 15" black steel wheels. They don't clear the brake calipers on his Mazda3 and they've been in the garage for ever. He'll take $250 for the wheels and tires. The tires are for light SUV's though and have a huge 70 sidewall.

I just want to clean up my half of the garage. It's getting cluttered in there again...

^ there's a guy here in columbus looking for some, I just sent him a pm to let him know

Last winter I got 4 blizzaks 225-45-18, used one winter, for $200-listed 250. Now there are two listings for the same type 4 tyres and with rx8 rims for $1000 and the the other one listing- 4 225-45-18 blizzaks for $500. its weird how some ppl get unrealistic with their pricing.

wishing I could be watching the 24 hours right now...stupid speed channel.
