The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I'm parting out. It just makes sense at this point in my life. I can go bigger and better later on when I have my own house and garage and stuff. Sure it will take some time but right now I need to be smart. I can make money by parting this stuff out. Good money. And I get a much more reliable daily driver. When I stomp on the pedal, I don't have to worry about a thing. By buying a turbo, I spend at least 400 and end up with another ticking time bomb. It just makes sense. The radiator is all yours though. You want the fans with it as well?

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm kinda glad I didn't go turbo either. And I like your idea of going with the KL. You can blame Wes for planting the seed in our brains. I'll have mine in for the spring and you can drive it and see what you think.

Well if you need any spare parts or anything, Phen and I have some spares in the garage. I'm just glad I got a couple of rides in her while she was boosted. I love boost. Just not the headaches that come with it...

ps- yes to fans too. Give me a buzz and we can talk price.

KL-t is for winter of 2011... I just think it would be sooooo fun to have a turbo V6 in a Protege5. No one would ever expect that.

i wouldn't. esp with a plate that says slow p5

Haha, I'd have to bring a change of clothes if I rode in it..

Ok, so I'm thinking, sell the Miata in the spring, and then, how about this project:

Hopefully in the spring, new project is a Mazda 2, i was originally gonna try to go with Mazda's 27b, triple turbo, basically running 1 holset hx30 variable geometry turbine off each side to feed a giant garrett. The math put me close 1000hp reliably in a 22-2400 lb car, but obviously traction will be the problem. Should I add awd too?

Pointless. Less traction than an MS3. Lighter car, more torque. More broken parts.

How will you be funding this project, Mr. Moats? Banks won't take Monopoly money, I've tried... :(

Hahaha! Yeah, Pablo. You pick up that motor and I'll help you swap it in.

Chipmunk, Stow is 5 mins up the road from me. If it wasn't so riced out I would look at it in person. How pissed do you think the owner would get if I said "Yeah, it's alright. I'll probably just take out the motor for my friends RX-7 and sell the ugly ass shell for scrap.".

I'll find a way. I may have to sell a few major organs.

thoughts/opinions? I'm torn. someone go look at this thing and see what it is like in person

Um, imo it looks like he built it on NFS Underground... I could see it going either way. Someone that puts that kind of paint on a car is either an idiot and doesn't know anything, or they're the kind of obsessive sort that would not spare any expense. I have a feeling you wouldn't find out until after you have bought the car and then start finding problems..

probably the same way I'm getting a Cosworth 280bhp crate engine, we make it work...

Are you really going to follow through with this? They have a log style F1 intake for the 2.3, it looks nuts.

Oh i've definitively seen that, it's all Marlon's fault... when we were at Mid Ohio on Friday there were a few open wheel mazda powered cars, he pointed out nobody would be able to catch me if i had one of those babies in my 3 (drive2)

here's my dilema:

1. going turbo - around 4k and i know i'll have the same power as a stock speed3. I'd only do the tri-point kit so forging is not necessary

2. crate engine - 12k (without an ECU mind you) + 2k for the ECU and wiring + xx$$ for tuning. this is if i find an engine since it's no longer listed in the cosworht site. I'm sure Marlon would be able to help me find one through Mazda or a team that no longer needs it but it might be used which means it needs to be rebuilt. either way, it's the easiest option to just swap out the engine, and i'll end up having 280ish (nana)

3. upgrade the parts on my current engine and either have DPTune reprogram my ECU or go stand alone, either way it's on the lower 10K and would involve a lot more work. who knows how much power this will make, best guess same as a stock speed3

so, turbo is cheapest but the other two make more power and can handle higher RPMs better (kind of a good thing for me :D)

thoughts?

280ish hp until you need to rebuild it in 200 hours. Unfortunately, there's a reason those NA motors make the power... and that same reason is why they don't last long.

I'm sorry, but this is just too sexy not to post the image of. Wow. ITB's on a Mazda 2.3l would sound so freaking awesome.

I say Cosworth motor. That would be EPIC. But it's also much easier to tell people how to spend money when it's not yours...

Phen is right though, don't think i could even get 200 hours out of it... maybe a conservative combination or Cosworth parts (head, cams and intake) and the current engine, see where i land on power
