The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Ugh, I need to stay away from the slammed thread. I'm either going to get myself banned or get so pissed off and leave these forums.

I miss the good 'ol days of the Protege...

I agree man. I usually just throw a few quips out there just to **** with them, then disappear for a bit. I can't believe that people think that it's beneficial to the car to drop them that low.

I could actually care less what they do to their cars - if they destroy them it's their money after all. What pisses me off is how slamming your Protege is the new status measurement here.

"Who cares if 505zoom made 277 whp on a stock block, that CWill made over 400 whp w/ turbo, that InstallShield made 196 whp N/A or that flat_black was running IRTB's on his Protege5 - no, if you're not tucking tire you aren't s*** and GTFO!"

Hell, I bet none of those member even know half of the guys I just mentioned. They probably never saw Pirhana's MSP...

different strokes for different fokes I suppose

Im all for slamming your car because ive been doing it since it was the cool thing to do.

slammed/ stanced cars are just a fad and it will pass. just like the JDM fad passed.

Man... Names I haven't heard in a while. MP5smuggler anyone? I have a few parts from his car on my P5.

It reminds me of Jillian's after Midwest Mazdafest last year. The older Protege guys sitting around talking about AFRs and fuel maps and fixes and stuff while the 3 / MS3 guys sitting around like wut? hahaha. Priceless to me.

I don't recall seeing your car. I like lowering cars. I like an aggressive stance, but when you go thru the effort to pick the right tire (195's wtf?) to stretch to fit over 9" wheels, just to get the rim of the wheel (yes, rim and wheel are different things) to be flush with the fender... man I dunno about all that. I'm about the widest tire you can fit and not have issues because I'm going to be doing some aggressive driving.

But like you said, to each their own. It's more that the people have a superiority complex in there.

To me, this looks awesome.

15x9's, 275's on them. Aggressive stance, and more flush than most

Ok, Biggu... I just saw your cars (after firing up the proxy since most pics are blocked). Yours look good to me. That's what I like to see.

I completely agree, imo there is a very fine line that is played with. i dont like to stick rim outside of the fender majority of the time.

thing that people dont understand is you just dont find wheels/tires that fit your car, find what you want size and tire wise and MAKE IT FIT!

Yeah, really showing my forum age a bit here. Those were the guys I aspired to when I first joined. I feel ike there really isn't anything left for the Protege. Aside from people like 505zoom, there really isn't anyone to look up to as far as experience and amount of work put into the car. Seems like guys are more ready to slam their car for the "stance" or to switch over to the MS3 for the "power" rather than stick with it nowdays. But yeah, I remember that at Jillian's. The Proteges are a dying breed for sure...

Damn, I feel like the angry old man on the porch mumbling to himself, LOL!

I don't even look at that thread, as it is absolutey crazy. Cars can be too low and they do not handle well at all, looks, smooks IMO...I care about the handling of the car, just like the MS3 guy that said his BC Coilovers were crap, because one broke. Well if you have your car slammed and running on full stiff on crappy streets and have the car lowered beyond the manufacturers recommendations, s*** like that happens.

Maybe senility has set in, I take all of my suspension cues from professionals, who set up race cars and have years, upon years of experience. Not from some one who says it looks cool, looking cool may get you killed.

^^^ Haha, I see Dana! Man, 2007, really not that long ago, I guess. I forgot you were there (and Chris and Rob, LOL 22V Trinity!). That last pic actually makes it look like everyone is checking out my car. Really brings back some memories. I was just thinking of all the crazy plans I had laid out for that thing.

To go along with what Marlon said...

This Miata was at Lime Rock last year. The owner was going on and on about how low it was, and how it was an awesome handling car. That night someone drove past and saw it upside down on the side of the road.

+1 to the previous comments about "slamming" proteges. you won't have to worry about that with my msp.

The Mazdaspeed B-spec springs that I used to have on my P5 were hands down the nicest suspension that I've had on that car. I wish I wouldn't have sold them, but you'll have that. Ideal height with a drop of 1.4ish inches. Stiffest spring rate available outside of coilovers. And being one of 7 sets in North America was nice too.

I can't say anything about people abandoning the Protege for the MS3 because I bought a pre-built MSM. Such a nice car the MSM is.

i went with the eibach pro-kit and have been very happy. just need now struts to level out the rear end but that'll have to wait till they need replaced

Argh, I'm trying to stay calm but I'm seriously going to lose it in that thread if I see one more "GTFO" comment. These guys remind me of high school freshmen who come in thinking they're hot s*** when they really aren't.

Don't get me wrong - it's YOUR car. Do to it what you want. I just find it weird that slamming your car is now the best thing in the world. I mean, they aren't doing anything too crazy. It's the same basic suspension setup, just a little lower than normal.

well, think about how old the protege is now and what they are selling for, most of them probly are in high school or right around there.

10 more years and they'll be doing all this crazy wild stuff to MS3s. A high schooler with 250+ hp under peer pressure can be dead scary unless they are responsible and have parents who understand the car and its limitations as well.

No offense to you cool MS3 owners, but the owners don't have to be in high school to be pulling some really dumb s***...
