The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Jess, you'll probably agree, that building it is half (if not more) the fun though, right? I need to stop by and give a hand. I keep forgetting...
I agree. I think the V8 Miata guys selling theirs because it was a "project and they need another" are nuts. I'll be out on Saturday working on something. If it rains I won't bother uncovering the green one. I'll try and work on the white one if so... at least it has shelter. The gauges aren't working and I'm not sure why (unamused)

yea im seeing how expensive that s*** is right now with my roomate Phil, he and his now fiancee are planning a wedding, and im seeing how much hes paying for this and that and all i can think in the back of my head is well there is no way in hell eloping isnt the smart choice now!! haha

That's why the inlaws pay for everything. :-)

Unless they're bums who can't afford to help you out because they put themselves in an awful financial position out of stupidity!

AMHIK

Speaking of finances I made the mistake and priced out the remainder of my RX-7 build. I tallied every off-the-shelf part I need to buy and I still have over $4k remaining :( and that doesn't cover the custom stuff (intake manifold, exhaust manifold) or the supplies needed to make my own custom stuff (seat brackets, etc.)1

Uh, yeah, I did a quick add up in my head on the way to work today of all of my "of recent" purchases and future spendings necessary to finish the ZE swap in the 626, paint the Yota, have Josh put it back together, and buy a few more tools to start making some products to sell and wow... I tried to not consider driving off the road too seriously, haha.

And invitations, They don't need to be a master piece work of art. I should've just made a facebook event and mailed a letter with date, time, address and directions to those that don't have fb.

I just made our invitations yesterday on Adobe Illustrator for our wedding and the price to print them out is only $30 compared to buying a cheap designed one online for $100+ on a package. I love being creative.

See, I really had no idea how much things costs for ours. And I'm glad I did, although we apparently came in way under the budget we were given.

i'm not in charge, i just want them done.

nah, that I actually don't feel bad paying for it

When I think of those DIY tint kits I always picture the cars in Walmart parking lot with purple tint and tons of bubbles... To me, tint is worth getting it done right by a quality shop. Do it once and not have to worry about it fading or peeling.

That's what I thought too. I bought tint to do our bedroom windows (since we sleep during the day) and it wasn't near dark enough. Jen thought I could put it on the side windows of the 3 or atleast the rear windows so Andrew has a little relief from the sun since the sun shades are never in the right spot it seems.

imo Jen and I did it right. We had our parents, siblings, my daughters, and the preacher man. Outdoor wedding, we parked the cars walked to the chosen spot, did the ceremony and a few pictures then went to dinner (that our parents split the cost of) and took a long weekend/honeymoon. The biggest expense for us was the preacher and that wasn't too much. Then a month and a half later we had our reception.

Larry, I got some curtains from Target that said they block 99% of daylight for about $15 each. I was skeptical but they really do work. Snag some of those for the bedroom.

Our wedding is costing us around $4000 which is a little much for me, but at least we are having bad ass food, beer, and cake. City BBQ, a whole lot of Yuenling, and Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. That's is out biggest expenses besides the photographer. Other than that it would probably only around 3ish.

I'm designing most of the decorating with supplies from HobbyLobby to save $$$, did all the invites, and all the little thing. Our friend is getting married a month after us and is having a planner do theirs and it is costing them a ton of moola. Their food isn't as good, they are having plain "classic" white cake (which cost more than our 7 cheescakes from CF), and their invites were close to $2 a card and they are snding out close to 200 individual cards. It amazes me how overboard people go with their weddings that they can't pay for in cash and sometimes put on a creditcard or eventake a loan out for. Freakin Stupid! I would rather have a smaller wedding with great things and people and have a bad ass vacation all paid for and not have to worry about paying back a dime.

Hmm, link? We've been thinking about doing something similar too for the boys' room.

We have some of those but since someone won't fire up her sewing machine and make them shorter to fit the window... I thought that the window tint idea might give her a gentle nudge.

Hmm, new shoes for next winter?

I know most of you posting in here are from the far north of Ohio (Maff doesn't count), but figured I'd ask here anyway. I am looking for a good body shop that can do metal replacement on my '81 RX-7. The closer to me (N KY-Ohio line) the better. I don't want a hack-job, I could do that. What I know it needs is both inner rear wheel wells (common first gen problem) and the outside right rear fender, which I have already. Could be some more, I'll know once I start disassembling her. I know there used to be a place that advertised down around Atlanta that specialized in early Zs and RX-7s but when I talked to him several years back the owner basically told me I had a throw-away car and most people just found a better one. That didn't really give me a good feeling they would do a proper job.

So, any recommendations? For those who don't know I'm gone a lot, so I could drop it off once stripped and there wouldn't be a big rush to get it back (well not for a few months anyway).
