THE MAN's CEL fix for ECU swap

Found this on a search. (On this site, not the "other" one) Hope THEMAN doesn't mind. This is in reference to the CEL when a P5 ECU is installed in a MP3.

"it can be fixed with proper electrical know-how. you'll need to get a VTCS solenoid and hook it up straight to the ECU at pin 73 for one terminal and hook up the other terminal by splicing to the wires coming off of pin 97 or 71... this can all be done with a few inches of 16 gauge wire by the ECU and the VTCS solenoid can be hidden there... you really must have the wiring diagrams and skill to do this... otherwise have someone do it"

Well since it didn't come off his personal website, like a hooker that's been paid....**** IT!! :D

sweet find, i swear i have searched for that mant times.

So where do we get this solenoid? any one have a part# so i can call my mazda dealer.

you don't want to buy the solenoid new

go get one from a junk yard.. as long as it looks the same as your VICS solenoid, then you're fine

make sure you get the connector too!

before you actually go slicing up wires, go TRY to borrow a Ford EEC V breakout box from a friend working at Ford, a tech school, or some repair shop... IF you have a mechanic friend ;) the breakout box is basically a labeled breadboard that allows you to stick wires to it to test things... so hook that up and see if it works, and if it does go ahead and hack up the wires then

what year proteges have them? like 99+? what does it look like and would anyone know an estimated cost?

If you got it at a junk yard it could be too much. My question is how do we know what pin to splice into?I have never looked at the ecu but how do you tell what # each pin is? Also if anyone with a p5 or es know what this is, could you take a pic?

Man, I was hoping for a fix, like, hook up a 20 ohm resistor and a 15 micro-farad cap and call it a day. . .finding the solenoid and putting it down there is crap! :D Maybe we should just steal the solenoid out of the car we did the swap with. They don't need it any longer anyway! Jerk that puppy!

Just go look on the passenger side of the intake manifold. . .wait a minute! I don't have one so I don't know what it looks like! :)
