The Injen CAI - dangerous?

yeah i heard about that test. that demonstrated the bpv works fine on NA cars but apparently FI is another story. and if you wanna quote someone, i think it's

(QUOTE).....(/QUOTE) but you use square brackets instead (i used () otherwise, it wouldn't show).

Hey Jor, I got mine at Lakewood too, kinda pissed about it, the rim was scratched (not from me) and there was a dent that they couldnt get out too. This was all before I bought it. How long have you had the car for, and who did you buy it from?

I got quotes from the local dealers online before i went. All but lakewood had a big mark-up on them. I got mine from Dana the internet sales guy. Mine was scratched on the silver that surrounds the stereo faceplate above and to both sides(from when they installed stereo). Unfortunately i noticed the scratch after i left or they would have fixed it or i wouldve got a different speed.

To quote you go to the post that you want to quote and there is a "quote" button on the bottom right of their post. Click that and erase what you dont want quoted but leave the [/QUOTE] in and you are set!! I do not know how to do multiple quotes tho.

Back on subject has anyone tried to install a splash guard and if so what is it made of and how hard is it to put in?

you really don't need a splash guard. i was worried about water too but the filter is pretty well protected. it's protected from some plastic underbody pieces and the wheel well. the foglight helps too. i really wouldn't worry about a splash guard. but if you want, i assume a heat shield would work as a splash guard. try a rytek heat shield. cheap and easy to install.

I bought mine from Dana too, he was alright, I had a scratch on the silver around the stereo too, also a chip out of the carbon fiber around the center. I got that piece replaced, but the silver is still scratched, kind of an eyesore.

the reason why a bpv won't work for turbo cars is because the bpv works on the premise of a sudden change in pressures. for example, when the filter is sucking in air, the bypass valve's pressure on either side of it is constant. when the filter is immersed in water, for example, the pressure on the filter side drops, which now opens the bpv. with turbos, however, there will constantly be a pressure change with the spooling of the turbo. the pressure changes because of the turbo exhausting its gases will make your cai a moot point.

whoever installed the stereos there is a moron!! Dana was really cool and gave me the first oil change for free. dont know if it is standard practice or not.

Woohoo double digit posts!!!

Thank You for the info... I can understand that concept.

Yea Dana gave me a free oil change too. Seems like he might do that for everyone that buys one of those. I dont know about the techs there, they dont seem like they know all the much about the Speed's. Mine is going in this week to fix a few problems and get the oil change.

Thanks for the info tonka, that makes sense now.

Hey All,

I have been concerned about this as well since I live in Minnesota (Where the winters can be ohhh so fun) and have the Injen on my car. The only real problem I see is the opening on the front inside area of the wheel well. I was considering installing some type of a fine mesh screen to eliminate anything major; hopefully without constricting air flow too much. Any thoughts on this? My other plan was to replace the last portion of the Injen so it didn't go into the wheel well. In MN winters it would be worth the loss of performance over a wrecked engine.

Since I am a "newbie" to car tuning I would like people's opinion.

Thanks!

I just redid my drivers side fog light(after putting PIAAs in it, it was hitting too low. And I deicded to measure my air filter. It's a little over 13" from the ground, at the lowest point. Unless you PLAN on running through puddles over 1 foot deep, or snow, I don't see a problem at all. I read somewhere that a little water it actually good, but a lot is bad. So I'm guessing you would have to fully submerge part of the filter in water. A little flying up and in shouldn't hurt one bit. I'm not too good with engines, but I pretty certain about this. It just makes sense.

Would an item like this help to reduce the chance of any water getting in the intake?

I was reasoning that with less filter exposed then just a normal cone filter, it would be harder for the water to get in, since theres 50% less room for water to get to the filter from.
