2003 Black Mica Mazdaspeed Protege #1012
So as most of you guys know, I got a body kit for my car. A....wide....body....kit. It fell off the car today. Every single piece. But luckily it was in my garage. So I drove the pieces to the body shop so I could get them painted. Here are some pics with the kit...and how my car sits now with NO kit. I should be getting the pieces back around April 16th.....

First couple pics are with the kit on, and primered. Next pics are my car with no kit at all. Literally.

Now, being depressed about my car being undriveable (legally, that is)...I decided to go make a customized piece for my car. I took out the Mazdaspeed heat shield, and took a grinder to it. Here's the semi-finished product...

I think I did a decent job.....it's almost perfectly even on the bottom. What do you guys think? And should I paint it? Or should I try and get a chrome-like polished finish to it?

Hey Mike, Let me know ASAP if you want to sell your MSP front bumper... I am having my car dropped at the body shop tomorrow to fix the back and front and just noticed you swapped yours out!!! Also let me know what you'd sell it for if so. THanks bro.

I already sold my MSP bumper...:( Actually, not just the bumper....it went with the fenders, side skirts, and rear bumper...

My bro is doing a Mazdaspeed body conversion. Even had to get 3rd gen headlights. He HAD a protege that looked like a 2000 model DX.

That kit is amazing. Very nice. what kit is it and where did you get it?

I have the BC2 body kit, with wide bodied fender flares, and bullet style fenders. They are getting put on soonish. Looks amazing though. I love your car.

It is from VIS Racing. They call it the "GT Widebody" kit. 10 pieces, all fiberglass. Front fenders are Laser style, I believe. And the front fenders are wide, rear fenders require the flares included in the kit. I got it from Rainstate, which is owned by Showtege.

The BC2 kit was gonna be the kit I bought, however one of my buddies already has most of the kit. He's joka1. That bastard. lol. But I had to go different, because there's no sense in having my body look like his.

P.S. And thank you for the compliments! :)

So with this wide body kit, are you cutting the rear finders so you can get wider wheels under it?

I hear ya buddy about being different. Hence my VIS style fenders and fender flares. It'll look good. are you keeping it straight black? Mine started an 03 LX, now it has a fully built msp motor w/ upgraded turbo and what not(which i have to upgrade again) and...is black. soon it will be white faded to silver with a pearl blue clear coat. hopefully It all looks good. take it easy take some more pictures.

Your kit seemed to fit very well though.

Yes. Showtege helped me cut the rear fenders. Not sure when I'll be able to get new wheels, but it is in the plans.

I was gonna paint my car a totally different color. But then I realized how expensive that was. So I'm saving up for paint. Again. :( And I'm saving up for wheels. And an upgraded turbo. And manifolds. And tires. And a trunk audio system. And......you get the pictures. ;)

I had allot of fun doing it. lol.

About one inch was cut out. Still more could get removed but not with out some serious welding. It will still fit a pritty agressive wheel set up with the current trim.

oh and mike i have something for you to protect that edge even better

definatly got the picture. I have a lot of saving myself.

custom interior, trunk audio, wheels, paint, body work. suicide rear doors...evo wing. i want a sunroof.. and I have to complete my suspension and do some other things on the motor(fuel stuff, upgraded parts, ported head, evs, ems..etc)..
i think you got that picture too.

did you guys take any pictures of you cutting the wheels/fenders out? cuz i would love to be able to do that if you could show me.

Its a thin ruber trim that slips over the cut edge of the metal. Its normaly used to to protect a cold air intake pipe from getting scratched up where it passes through the small hole to your fenderwell. It should work to protect your self and others from that visable sharp edge when your rear door is open.

Sounds perfect Jacob. I gotta stop by sometime to get a few company logos cut. I'm sure VIS Racing will be happy. ;)

I don't have any pictures of the actual cutting. I can take pics of what was actually cut off if you'd like. Considering nothing is on the rear fenders at the time. ;)

Oh and to let every one know the rear fenders are not molded in thats why the nead to add a finnish trim. The rear fenders fit amazingly well. I do want to mold Maximumimpacts rear fenders befor the next paint job when he changes the color of the car.

So do I. Molding it would totally finish the way the body kit flows. With just bolted on flares, it looks....choppy. But molding it would make the rears look just like the fronts.

molding is amazing. That is what i have to do. the molding of the whole body kit. we'll see how it turns out.

btw, i saw you had the vibrant exhaust. how does that sound? and how much power did it add?
