The best set up you can buy

(poke) Ive been wondering this for a while, what would be THE BEST set up? I'm talking max whp/wtq, and engine safety even transmission gears set up the whole sha-banga-bang. Spare not expense but keep it realistic since we done have all the options in the world.

its all who u talk too. its gotta be between MAM and hi-boost. i think MAM thumper kit is the best to go with. ull need a built motor, fuel management, injectors, probably MPNicks gearset. then axles and a clutch. thats about it, i dont think anyone can say whats the best beause no one has tried to make alot of power.

"The best" is a relative term. The best for one person might be a 500 whp stripped down drag car that can barely idle, the best of another person might be a 250 whp fun daily driver that's still easy to manage. It's really not something that other people can tell you, but here are some options.

For a daily driver with a stock block
HiBoost turbo kit
MAM stripper/sleeper kit
Any of the older kits like Begi that aren't produced any more
Or a ground up custom kit

For a built motor, daily driver, the MAM street sleeper kit is probably your best bet. It can make serious power without compromising drivability, but still requires some pretty extensive upgrades to get the most out of it.

Beyond that, the MAM Thumper kit or the HiBoost big boost kit is what you want. They're both capable of massive ammounts of power, over 500 whp, but it might not be as friendly to the average commuter because of the larger turbo. However, these kits are only for the big boys. They pretty much require that you replace or upgrade your entire driveline to really tap into their potential.

ya'll getting it twisted I'm not talking about me buying a kit i mean if you had the money to get all the parts needed to get your ride or a ride running to the tip top performance wise a what would that combination be like if i had the money i would buy a :
MAM built motor
MAM Thumper kit (GT30)
MAM Stage 3 Fuel rail
MAM oil pan kit (if made)
custom 3in piping to a duel exhaust
AEM ems
Mpnick Two injector kit
J&F safeguard
JDM cams
Nos intercooler spray
and get a gear kit to top out @170

That what i was trying to get started in this thread Nothing wrong with dreaming about performance beside it may give the rich folks something to think about if they still got a protege.

in my mind, i would take my car up to MPI, tell nick i want 300whp, let him do his thing, and then redo the entire suspension

Is this thread just for entertainment or are you seriously considering a project like this? Because before anyone makes an investment of this magnitude, I would suggest they study what they're getting into a lot more carefully than just asking random people for their opinions, ya know?

^^^^ What he said!!!! It's not about throwing named parts out there. If you got the cash and a competant builder/tuner and tell him to have his way. MPNick does everything in house and can build you a motor that will hold as much as you can throw at it. Not only a FULL longblock motor, but a gurtle for the bottom end(never done on a protege, but can be), HUGE turbo, full tubular exhaust mani, full tranny, Piggyback or Standalone, exhaust......

your right, you could do it like that just drop it off but it wouldn't be fun. even so, i understand where ya coming from so i guess if you got the money you'd get it done right the first time.

even if you wanted to do it all yourself you can go and tell them what you want and just install everything yourself.

Our motors already have a girdle.

Not a fully machined one that would make the actual block be the weakest point of the motor then. I was talking a FULL motor, crank and all, then the gurtle would be the last HIGHLY expensive part that would tie it all together. With all that, then the block is the wekest link. The machined gurtle I am talking about would make the stocker look like a thin piece of sheet metal.

It's already like this. The stock girdle already ties all the mains together. Then a step forward it also ties the entire block and mains together.

(jacked) I got a question mostly for beau, but if you got knowledge by all means share it. At this point with the info i have been getting I will be running the MAM SS kit , Mpi tuner, and Mpnicks 2xtra injectors. The question, what would ya'll recommend as a good boost level? i was thinking 8-9psi but second opinions for people with time with the kit or just the makers of the kits would greatly help me figure out a good cut off point to my 300hp or run like a champ goal.

Stock motor, 8-9psi would be fine with that setup. Built, the sky is the limit!

Well, ANY kit should be reliable if you have fuel and timing control. The BEGI kit had a RRFPR and IMO is not the best. Fuel and timing via the MPI is VERY safe, you can tune it safe. I've been going over 2.5 years on the MP3 at 8psi with it. How many MP3's are still on the stock motor with a turbo for this long at this boost level? I believe StuttersC was the longest on an MP3 with the BEGI kit until is motor went.

Yea, you're not gonna run like a champ for long at 300hp on the stock motor, 8-9psi sounds like a good point for the stock motor, you probably won't need to use those extra injectors until you start pushing past 10psi.

I don't know i heard that to be on the safe side its best to get them even though i myself am starting to lean towards the single injector kit just to keep my main injectors from reaching 90% duty cycle which would help prevent failure and lost motor parts on the road. and my goal is to either have a 300hp engine or have my car running like a champ at what ever boost that is safe for the motor to handle through fine tuning of the MPI and some help from others. Merry christmas everyone!
