The 1999-2000 Protege Pic thread

if you hit it on the ground/bottom out idk if it would but thats what ive heard... and almost all the fiberglass bumpers i see here in florida are cracked to hell

i hit a small yellow pole .. heard a loud crack.. took the entire bumper off and examined it, no damage... i got lucky... but erebuni makes some strong ass bumpers..

I went and rear-ended someone going less than 15 mph (I was already braking when I hit him) and I thought my bumper and grille were toast. I have the Sport20 bumper and AutoExe lip (both are fiberglass). I was soooo about to get pissed because I just screwed up a 200.00 bumper (bought it from a member on here) but luckily everything was fine. The bumper was still in one piece and the lip was unharmed. However, my grille caught the brunt of everything and cracked. But I have to say that I totally dodged a bullet on that one. Id much rather pay 150.00 for a new grille than almost 500.00+ for the bumper and lip again from Corksport.

before i buy it, i tought that was very cheap and easy to break but it look like more strong than the original bumper.. because the bumper is really flexible so if you hit the ground, ill move and willn't break... but if you hit sidewalker at 20 mph, maybe he'll break lol but it seen strong ! (thumb)

My bumper held up after my accident, so you should be fine if you hit a curb or something. Just don't hit it head on or anything. Worse case scenerio, you'll have to have to patch up the damage and then re-sand it etc... Best case, you'll have to repaint the spot.

If you have the true Sport20 bumper and lip from Corksport, it's urethane not fiberglass. That's why it held up. IMO, fiberglass is just for show and not to be used on daily driven cars. They're not meant to handle the abuse of the roads.

Someone backed into mine and the only thing that happened was the paint chipped and I got a few scratches.

I was referring to what steve said about the Sport20 bumper. It's not fiberglass, it's urethane. I have the Sport20 bumper and when some dumb b**** backed into me, I completely lost it. After I finally calmed down I realized that only a huge chip of paint came off, that's it.

That happened back in DEC 2002, and to this day it still looks like that. I used the money she paid me on bills. I've been neglecting my car for a long time and I'm pretty much restoring it like new over the next nine months, just in time for NOPI. I don't want to sell it because I like it, and it's paid off. I'll probably give it to my kid down the road if I don't neglect it anymore after I get it back to normal. New engine, tranny, suspension, paint, interior. I already started on the interior.

show me, i want to see

Didn't know that. Could of sworn that it was fiberglass. But now that you mention it and I think about it, I guess it is urethane. Kinda explains why the paint is coming up off the bumper. Because a flex agent wasn't used and the paint didn't bond with the bumper. Ok... guess they are urethane then. Now Im little more relieved about getting in that accident then.

I went and reacted the same way when I hit that guy. I was so pissed! My gf thought I was going to bust a vein or something in my head. I was cursing up a storm and yelling. I thought my bumper and lip were toast. Fortunately, just had a cracked grille and a paint swap from the other bumper.

My car is in the same condition to this day as well. I haven't been able to get 400.00 to get my car fixed. I have to dish out an extra 150.00 to buy a new Sport20 grille. I have to have the shroud in my engine day hopefully bent back into place. If not, I have to spend a 100.00 more to have that same piece taken off another Protege in a junkyard welded in place of the old they (bodyshop) cut out. Im close to paying off my car too so thats why I want to keep mine for a long time and possibly pass it on to my kids.

yes but if you hit someone with your front bumper, fiberglass or not, he will be scrap.... if you hit the ground a little, ill only have scratch on it... ill put a second thickness on it to be sure... only where it can break

Thats a bad ass drawing. He does it on computer or did you like scan it? I aint that artistic to do things like that. Mad props to your friend.
