Texas VW dealership defending Tiguan vs. CX-5

I found this sort of funny:

They decided to compare the much more expensive VW Tiguan to the least expensive CX-5. In my book the CX-5 still looks better (both literally and figuratively). Look at the photos they used for the comparison.

The sales pitch begins with this:

Crossovers are designed to combine the best features of an SUV with the best features of a passenger car. If you’re like us, your favorite part of driving a car is sporty performance. That’s something you get standard when you buy a Tiguan. The competition doesn’t even come close.

Hmmm, have they changed the Tiguan? Because the one I drove was rather ponderous feeling for such a small vehicle.

No rain sensing wipers? Shame! (note: I like my rain sensing wipers but would never let it enter into the purchase decision except in the most miniscule way)

Maintenance Warranty: VW 12 months or 10,000 miles (whichever comes first). Wow! What a great thing. My Mazda dealer kicked in the first oil change for free too. And that's all this amounts to.

Then they crow about the greater towing capacity of the Tiguan without mentioning it's only 200 pounds more. I guess it would matter if you planned to tow a trailer slightly over the CX-5 rating.

On the sales pages they claim "With an unbeatable 4-star crash test rating, this SUV puts safety first." Unbeatable? The CX-5 has a 5 star rating!

Of course they fail to mention all the things the CX-5 does better. I think this VW dealer is a little loco in the head. It's like free advertising for Mazda.

I was actually looking at the Tiguan before the cx-5 but the dealer did not want to finance. Worked out, because I got more for less in the end (except for the stronger motor but that was it).

We leased 2 Jettas and a CC so we are familiar with VW's latest products.

We shopped to own a small SUV and test drove a Tiguan and was surprised by how non-sporty it felt. The 2.0 turbo felt very slow in it possible due to weight. The mpgs figures were like 21/26. The fit and finish was good but to add features it would be really pricey. The reliability was a concern since we would own it and the resale value wouldn't be good. The CX-5 was the better purchase. Oh and not to mention Navigation maps are not free, about $220+ per update.

I wanted one too(had a 08" VW rabbit 4 door), but when I compared the space in the trunk area, I have walked away.
